President Trump sent a letter to Israel's President asking that he pardon Israel's Prime Minister, who is on trial for corruption. Trump calls the charges against Netanyahu "lawfare," the same way he describes the criminal cases and convictions against him.

Prison contracts should reward results, not occupancy rates. In 2013, PA rewrote its contracts so that prisons could earn bonuses for lowering recidivism. They faced penalties if reoffending increased. Early results showed 11% decline in recidivism

When payment rewards full units, you get full units, not safer or more effective ones. Public or private, paying for occupancy guarantees the wrong work gets done.

5 years ago, I was proud to launch a new effort at the ACLU to work with state governors use their clemency powers to commute the sentences of 50,000 people. Our research showed that this was doable in a way that would achieve the dual goals of justice and safety, and that the

Want to end the gerrymandering wars? Support the Fair Representation Act (FRA), which would end partisan gerrymandering:

California voters passed Proposition 50, which would change California’s congressional map to benefit Democratic candidates.
It's hard to get excited over the victory in Proposition 50, which only extended the problem of gerrymandering. While I understand the temptation, it is yet another example of setting aside normative values that liberals are supposed to hold for the sake of extending a political
