Thanks for highlighting the issue @sarahpsyc. Mental health nurses need to graduate with good relational skills, not wait until after qualifying to maybe get some CPD. How can we expect quality care without quality education? @nmcnews we are still waiting for a serious response

Perfect end to the wk discussing empathy and the therapeutic relationship with year 1. then @UCLanComensus session with second years. So important to learn from peoples lived experiences. And obvious learning taking place in front of our eyes @JMGarner5

What do our current and past student think?

Do mental health nurses get enough mental health skills training? I have been discussing this with current year 3 students. There are 2 sides to the argument, but we agreed that if MH skills are jeopardised at the expense of physical healthcare skills the tide has gone too far

One reason I care so much about #MentalHealth nurse education, is knowing that people diagnosed with 'borderline personality disorder' are often met with #MentalHealth nurses who don't know how to help them. Doing a literature review I found this today: https://t.co/ujelVp6emG

Yes πŸ‘‡ this is the problem. Physical health care skills are important, but some of them come at the expense of interpersonal/MH skills. Meaning MH nurses are not fully equipped with the skills they need as MH nurses @dan_warrender @MH_DeservesBett @UCLanMH

@Jane_Fisher2 I'm a third year Mh student - i spend more time getting physical health proficencies signed off than i have interpersonal skills or anything relating to emotional intelligence, de escalation etc
