Whenever there’s a big mob backlash against a company (like the RubyGems vs. Shopify drama now, or 37signals in 2021), I keep this tweet from @mitchellh in mind: “One thing I found incredibly frustrating as an employer is you can’t share your side of the story and you’re always

Me 5 minutes after meeting somebody new: it's of utmost importance for you to - open a broker account and buy Vanguard S&P 500 UCITS ETF (USD) Accumulating (VUAA), and - take 10g creatine per day yes 5g was the previous recommendation but after 5g the benefits are cognitive

Microservices is the software industry’s most successful confidence scam. It convinces small teams that they are “thinking big” while systematically destroying their ability to move at all. It flatters ambition by weaponizing insecurity: if you’re not running a constellation of

@codejake You know this is just some shit people made up, right? None of us are under any obligation to abide by any of their little clauses. "You violated #6 of the rules we made up!!!". Lol 🤣

@jetpackjoe_ That's exactly the point of contention. The delusional belief that because someone thinks "open source" means one thing to them that everyone else SIMPLY MUST abide by their definition. Fizzy is open source per the common definition of the words "open" and "source". Good for me.

It takes a particular kind of hybris to think you can narrow down the definition of "open" and "source" to match your pet interpretation, and believe everyone else just has to bow to that dominion. No.

Open source is when the source is open. Simple as that. The license then determines what rights are given or reserved. The lion's share of my open source work is under MIT, the most permissive license. Love it. I've done none under GPL, because I don't need code dump charity.

If the source is open for everyone to see, it’s open source. Simple.

Some morons latched onto what I called Fizzy by @37signals an Open Source product. I will do it again. It is Open Source, whether you like it or not. Open Source can be different. It can be a library that you can directly use in your software. It can be a documentation or a

This is writing and communication at S-tier level. How does one learn to write like this? What does it take to reach this level?

People have been asking what happens to ONCE now that Fizzy is both SaaS and Open Source? Are we going to make any more ONCE products? First some quick background. In September of 2023 we announced ONCE. ONCE was the reintroduction of an old idea. Rather than subscribe to

💯 It makes me happy to see that an exceptional programmer, who has put in so much work in this project is rewarded so well for all his efforts and hard work.

Anthropic buying Bun is a beautiful act of corporate patronage. There's no compelling technical or strategic argument, but I fully support saving a great runtime from the indignities of trying to monetize open source infrastructure on a VC timeline 🎉

Just posted David's latest essay on Shopify to the Rails subreddit. Hope it doesn’t start another firestorm there, but Shopify’s scale with Ruby on Rails is damn impressive and I just want to spread the word everywhere. https://t.co/E4pCbR0dxv
