I almost envy the naivety shown in this article.

I am in the kitchen grilling some tomatoes… "What are your names?” “What type of tomatoes are you?” “Where were you at 8.43 last Tuesday evening?”

I really wish it was a moral panic. If people knew the kinds of things there were going on every single second of the day...once you see behind that curtain, you get a completely different perspective. We have overprotected in public and under-protected kids online.

Kids can do everything right and still be exposed to awful content and be susceptible to grooming. The algorithms don't care about whether you've "done the work" necessary to use the device.

This is an incredibly naive take. It's not a lazy cop out. They are not an essential tool. A 10 year old absolutely does not need a fully enabled smart phone. Teaching about privacy settings doesn't stop the avalanche of issues the online world presents. /1

I think I might have said this before, but apart from using a smartphone as an assistive technology to aid with a disability, I can't see any argument against not drastically prohibiting use in schools. And that's coming from someone who's spent 20-odd years in ed and tech.

This year's royalties for The Art and Science of Teaching Primary Reading have arrived (£5,477). As promised, this money has been donated to Malaria Consortium. This brings the running total donated (with Gift Aid) to roughly £57,000 in four years. >>

Years ago, it was decided that coding was the future, so we all-but-stopped teaching ICT in favour of Computer Science, and now I have classes of children who can't send emails, save files, touch type. Perhaps before we replace the current curriculum with AI lessons, we pause.

People who have an issue with teachers being anonymous here also seem quite happy conversing with people who are not only anonymous but also use abusive language to those they don't like. In the very same thread where they're saying it's wrong to be anonymous.

Don’t shoot the messenger but I’m wondering: Is anyone standing up for those students (especially SEND) who regularly have their learning or even safety compromised by very disruptive or even abusive students in state schools? I bet it’s more common than people realise.

With this coming across my feed again, I wonder if we're ready to have a serious conversation about the people paid by schools to run anti-racism training. Posting in praise of a woman who blames '[J]ewish supremacy' for her being investigated for antisemitism should not be
When I started to look at the links between the teaching union and the Palestine Solidarity Committee, I couldn’t believe what I found. The NEU is teaching its teachers anti Israel hatred and they, in turn, are taking it into the classroom even though schools are meant to be

Absolutely baffled and horrified to read that the 15 year old boy who murdered Harvey Willgoose at school had already brought an AXE into school, then brought another KNIFE into school - before then bringing in the knife to murder Harvey. Someone needs to explain why in the
