Interesting: Rep. Nanette Barragán, D-Calif. tells me she wants to take the Congressional Hispanic Caucus on the road. The new chair plans to hold town halls in states with growing Latino populations, including Arizona, Nevada and Florida.

News -- McConnell comes out in support of the Senate's bill to overhaul the Electoral Count Act, a bill to make it harder to overturn a presidential election and a response to the Jan. 6 attack. Bill has enough GOP support to pass Senate, likely in the lame-duck session.

“A vote on marriage equality will happen on the Senate floor in the coming weeks,” Schumer said. It’s still unclear if the vote will happen before the midterms, but top Dems say it’s their “goal” for a pre-November vote

Video thread from Chuck Grassley’s town hall in Corydon (Wayne County) today: “I’m for the $35 cap,” Grassley told the crowd about insulin, a little over a week after voting against the insulin caps that passed and helping shoot down another one for privately-insured people

People's Town Hall is excited to launch our new conversation series with Americans doing the hard work of making democracy work -- IF WE CAN KEEP IT. Democracy is more than just what happens in the halls of Congress, or at the ballot box in November. It’s a year-round process.

If Senators are going to treat the August recess like a 5-week vacation rather than hold town halls with their constituents, they might as well stay in DC and do the people's business.

We're much closer to a climate deal than people realize. Let's not throw in the towel just yet. Fighting climate change is more important than any August recess.
