Thank you to Mount Vernon High School for having me yesterday! It was an honor to help open up the House that Time Forgot competition. The projects these kids came up with were incredible and I can't wait to see how far they go.
Today was another incredible day out in community! We kicked off Workers Memorial Day early with the Sustainable Port Chester Alliance talking about the importance of worker protections for all. Together, we’ll keep pushing for stronger protections for workers everywhere!
The arrival of a Proud Boys founder at Columbia makes the situation very clear—right wing extremists are capitalizing on peaceful student protest to serve their own political goals. McInnes has a known history of antisemitism.
This isn’t about keeping students safe at all.
At 3 pm, Gavin McInnes, the founder of the far-right militant organization the Proud Boys, was spotted on campus. McInnes is present around the Butler Lawn area.
This is a huge deal! Our labor wins just keep coming, and this new rule from the Labor Dept. will uplift millions of workers by giving them hard-earned overtime pay. We’re going to keep fighting so that every worker is paid fairly for their labor ✊🏿
BREAKING: 4 million workers will now take home more money when they work more than 40 hours a week under a new Labor Dept. rule released today. The changes would make it so salaried workers earning less than about $59k annually would automatically be due overtime pay.
The decision to get emergency medical care is an individual freedom, not a decision for politicians and judges.
Today, SCOTUS will decide whether to keep putting lives at risk or uphold basic healthcare rights and laws like
#EMTALA
. I urge them to protect reproductive freedom.
I am devastated to hear of the passing of my friend and colleague, Rep. Donald Payne. His work to invest in minority-owned businesses and build up our nation’s infrastructure were inspirational. I’m sending love and strength to his loved ones and to New Jersey’s 10th District 🙏🏿
On this Armenian Remembrance Day, I am mourning all those who were lost, and the grief that their families had to endure. There is still so much more we must do to call for justice for the Armenian people. It is essential that we work to build a world rooted in love and peace.
I condemn any potential police action on Columbia University's campus. As an educator who personally experienced the over policing of our schools, this is personal to me. We must resist right-wing demagoguery and stop suppressing peaceful protest if we are to keep students safe.
LET'S GO! We’ve been pushing the FTC to ban noncompetes and now they are so close to finalizing a rule that will help 30 million workers lower their healthcare costs, expand innovation, and make higher salaries.
This is the result of doing the work for the people!
BREAKING: The FTC just banned non-compete agreements.
The Federal Trade Commission has issued a final rule making it illegal for bosses to make workers sign noncompetes in any scenario, and voiding nearly all existing noncompetes.
This is a game changer for American workers.
Chag pesach sameach to everyone celebrating Passover in NY-16 and around the country! I hope everyone enjoys their seder and is able to celebrate with friends and family today.
Happy Earth Day! 🌎
Proud to have joined Democrats in Congress to make the Inflation Reduction Act the largest climate investment in US history, and to have introduced legislation like my Green New Deal for Public Schools to address the climate crisis and build a future for all.
Today, SCOTUS is hearing Johnson v. Grants Pass, a case that could criminalized unhoused people simply for existing.
I joined
@RepCori
and my colleagues in urging SCOTUS to reject penalties for unhoused people because existing in public is not a crime.
We cannot brag about being the wealthiest nation in the world when millions of people cannot afford or access the health care they need.
We need Medicare for All so that health care is affordable and accessible for everyone regardless of their job, income, or zip code.
Our kids are brilliant, and school should be an opportunity to discover their passion and nurture their creativity.
We need to revolutionize our public schools and make them places of self-discovery by reforming standardized testing with my More Teaching Less Testing bill.
