Risperidone, quetiapine, and olanzapine are 3 of the 4 most prescribed APs for children, so our findings have implications for clinical practice. Aripiprazole, blonanserin, lurasidone, molindone, and ziprasidone can be broadly considered safer treatment options.

The physiological effects of antipsychotics did not seem to be influenced by demographics, baseline physiology, or diagnosis, so findings can be considered robust and generalisable across the paediatric population.

We also saw large changes in heart rate and blood pressure associated with some antipsychotics. For example, compared to placebo, quetiapine was associated with an increase in HR of 12bpm, and systemic blood pressure went up by 10mmHg
