The fact they have curtains and do not use them for football is insane. There is no explanation. Just baffling.

Not really the biggest thing but... the for you tab of this dumb app being completely non-chronological during a breaking news event is just bad design.

A historian is calling ‘GLADIATOR 2’ “total Hollywood bullshit” saying that: • Rhinos in the Colosseum were not the same breed as they are in the film • A scene includes a newspaper & cafe but the printing press would not be invented until 1,200 years later (Source:

The difference is the floor has gone up, so instead of loading tiny optimized pages that needed to load on 56k connections (or worse) at 40Mbps you are getting pages designed to load on 60Mbps connections loading at 200Mbps.

Computers have insanely better CPUs and much more RAM nowadays, yet they feel slower than 20 years ago. I used to think it happens because computers do more useful work. Turns out, better hardware is more forgiving to crappy coding practices.

There are definitely problems with modern appliances, but they generally use like 1/5th the energy they used to, at 1/3 the cost, and 3x the capacity. Seeing old appliances and thinking old appliances all lasted longer is just survivorship bias.

I always sound like a conspiracy theorist when I say this but things are not built how they used to be, i.e., made to last, made to be functional, etc., because of capitalism.

Not only was OpenAI's current fundraising round oversubscribed by a staggering amount, The Information is now reporting that for anyone who was lucky enough to make it in OpenAI set a minimum contribution: a quarter of a billion dollars.

If the fielding players foot is in the end zone it is a touch back, same as if they plant one foot out of bounds and touch the ball it counts as the ball being out, same as if it were kicked out. Also with new rules if it lands in the end zone it can be downed anyway.

No part of this would qualify as "AI" Adding a localized sharpening filter to a low quality picture is not AI.

The same companies responsible for enabling motion smoothing on your parents' TV by default are polluting the historical record with "AI enhanced" pictures that phone users don't know about. This picture isn't fake; it's just been tampered with without the user's understanding.

This is the same issue in soccer, it's why very few legit international talents have come through the NCAA system. Creates a tough tradeoff for the kids who don't make it though.
