Especially in situations like “check everywhere for instances where this kind of pattern emerges”. Yeah I can read 10 files myself and do a bunch of cmd-fs or grep. But it really feels like work a computer should do for me.

Sometimes it feels like writing code with LLM/agent assistance is how programming should have always been.

I can understand politicians feeling the need to put on this act. That’s literally their job, to make as many friends as possible (or as few enemies as possible). I can’t understand fellow suffering citizens asking others to be respectful. You don’t even gain anything from it.

Lastly, it’s quite silly to expect people to be respectful when the dead president in question tweeted the above about his citizens & then months after, the army came out and shot a good chunk of them.

Since this is X and one must disclaimer - I don’t condone these actions. I abhor them. I just think history and perspective is useful. I could have easily been one of the protestors shot that day, and I’ve decided I’ll use the gift of life to learn as much as I can.

Also stopped being surprising to me that military action was taken against these potential insurrectionists.

After learning all of this, it stopped being surprising to me that he probably saw the protests as some form or insurgency likely funded by some powerful opposition (and not the citizens who actually funded it).

More than a decade before he decided to take the country, he was an active duty fighting against Biafra for 2.5 years (like his tweet said) holding the position of a Commander at some point.

This was a man who was a Major General in his early 40s (at the time of the coup). A man who decided that he (& his team) knew what was best for the country and quite literally took it by force. This happened during an era of rampant coups. 6 coups in less than 30 years.

But honestly, I think this tweet is very insightful. It contains truth about the PoV of our former president during the monumental EndSARS protests. Buhari overthrew the first executive president elected by universal suffrage (in his second term).
