Today thousands of 10-year-olds in Kent and Bucks sit the 11-plus. A single high-stakes exam shouldn’t decide a child’s school future. #End11plus #transfertest #kenttest

Staggering. Remember, selective systems fail not just those who don’t meet an arbitrary mark - but also those who get into grammar schools, often damaging their personal well-being & narrowing their vision of what success can be!
📢 New investigation: Over 123,000 children sat 11+ tests in 2024. 💰 Cost to the public? At least £5.5 million. 57 different tests. No Ofqual oversight. This isn’t just unfair—it’s chaotic and expensive.

•Causes unnecessary stress and anxiety •Has a long lasting effect on those that go on to fail the test •Focuses on academic ability at age 10 •There are no proven better outcomes for kids

•Requires tutoring which only a portion of privileged can afford •Divides communities •Increases vehicle transmissions from driving kids to schools outside local area

Who can add to this? @comp_future @timesupfortest 11+ Reasons the Grammar System needs to be abolished… •Segregating kids by ability is archaic •It’s an unregulated test, lacks transparency & unification •It lacks inclusivity •It lacks diversity •It lacks equality

Isn't it time to consign the 11+ to history? It’s inaccurate. It favours the privileged. It damages confidence. And it costs millions in public money, with no proven academic benefit. Let’s build a school system that lifts all children, not just a few. #EndThe11Plus

There's so much sense in this argument for ending school selection and ensuring schools are community institutions. Why not send children to 'the school up the road, with the kids from around the corner'?

As part of our thought experiment series, Seamus Murphy imagines what the system would look like if every child was automatically enrolled in their nearest school

Why is an unfair and inaccurate test created in the 1950s still in use in 2025? It’s time to phase it out. #EndThe11Plus #faireducation #TimesUpForTheTest

The 11-plus was abolished in most of the UK 50+ years ago. Yet 100,000 kids a year still sit this outdated test—causing stress, inequality, and wasted public money. It’s time to phase it out. #EndThe11Plus #TimesUpForTheTest

Absolutely! We need to avoid segregation in our school system and end the 11+.
New research reveals that friendships across socioeconomic lines have a powerful relationship with future earnings and social mobility. Yet another argument for the benefits of socially mixed comprehensive education. https://t.co/8l5oF5FWaX

There can be a crazy amount of pressure on children to pass the 11+. Primary school children spending hours studying past papers is pointless and unnecessary stress.

Isn't it unfair that wealthier families pay thousands to boost scores? Grammar school selection favours those with resources

Well done to @Dan4Barnet for asking a very good question, and the copy paste reply is so disappointing! Sadly 11+ tuition causes huge inequality. A pat answer about 'a brilliant education for every child' isn't going to fix that. https://t.co/kPyMBo89eM

A problem that's not talked about enough. Grammar schools often change surrounding schools. Is this fair on the pupils who don't pass the 11+? #timesupforthetest

Actually, what the Labour government should do is end the discredited 11+ and open up grammar schools to all local children. Ideology gets in the way of this sensible reform.
If the Labour government genuinely cared about education, they'd expand grammar schools to give the brightest a chance to succeed. Instead, ideology gets in the way of what's best for children.
