If you need to define something, then pick an authoritative work, and cite it. You cannot copy from Wikipedia, and not indicate so. Even the worst paper reviewer will mention this to you.
Remember Promise, the deaf girl I met in the village? Twitter people suggested St. Louis school for the deaf and we enrolled her. Even though she never did sign language before then, she came 3rd in her class!
Things to consider when building a family house (and money is no problem):
1. A large entrance room where people can dump shoes, coats and dirty stuff before entering.
2. Ethernet ports in every room. Usb chargers on the wall sockets.
3. A kids play area that is connected to
I needed to pay $10. So I decided to use crypto. Here is the process:
1. Clicked to pay. It showed me a Coinbase payment screen popup.
2. I clicked to pay via USDT on eth, it said the fee would be $4. Too high.
3. At the bottom it says something about Polygon network. I click it
If you are a local startup and you need coders ready to work at N100k/month for the next 6 months, drop in my DM. I will refer you backend, frontend, ui/ux etc.
This is DevFest, Uyo. Now think of 5 years from now, when most of these people will be earning thousands of dollars monthly and playing in the global economy. And mentoring others. Africa is about to change significantly.
With the way

If you thought the world was fair and merit was all that was needed, the social-media unfiltered thoughts of many gatekeepers should have disabused you of that notion by now.
Well designed gatekeeping is an elaborately woven net of codewords and tests designed to keep out the
The genetic distance between the Igbo and Yoruba tribes is less than the distance between Germans and Austrians. Genetically, Igbo and Yoruba are identical people. And even in language, Yoruba and Igbo belong in the same group (with Edo).
Akwa Ibom tech week is coming in October. I expect most of the tech big shots to be there. If you want to attend (and speak) you can drop me an email on markessien

When you live in a bubble of rich people, you start believing that everything should be done based on merit. When you spend a lot of time with the poorest of the poor, that's when you realise that we need to help them, they won't achieve it on their own.
@hackSultan
So you think it's okay to hide the fact that ritual murders are happening because of some absurd beliefs? The more we expose criminality, the less it will be. Shine the light and crime will stop. I'll continue to do that, no matter how much people want to pretend it's not there.
My suggestions to the Minister of Comm Tech:

1. Nipost: Every nipost branch should become independent. Any courier/e-commerce company can pay a "space" in the branch, and once they do that, they get a seat and can receive packages. A guideline for operations is
How are we sure Binance is not printing NGN? When people trade NGN-USDT on their platform, did they really deposit Nigerian Naira? Or is Binance just creating a kind of virtual naira? If it's doing that, then Binance is pumping 100s of million of naira into economy daily.
My Dad too was a houseboy. When people ask why Africa is backward, you have to understand where we were just one generation away. All this is being built from nothing.
My father was sent at age 10 from Akure to Ibadan to be a domestic servant (houseboy) in order to position him for Government College Ibadan GCI because his mum believed education was the way. We’ve gone from houseboy to me in one generation. It’s education not privilege.
@iaboyeji
We can solve this privately with less than N20m. Fund transport vehicles that ply all routes with dashcams and hidden cameras and document every extortion attempt. After 10-20 of the cops have been fired the matter will die down for one year. When it returns, repeat.
22,000 people have registered for

so far. It's starting Wednesday. Of the one from last year, ~ 500 people so far have found tech jobs, and about 100 are in foreign remote jobs. And numbers keep going up.
Let's see how this one goes!
Nigerian Coders - I am begging you, please come back to PHP. All of you left PHP, now there are so many open roles and nobody to fill them anymore. In the last two years, I don't think anyone specialised in PHP anymore. Intl companies searching for PHP devs here and can't find.
There is almost no chance of Nigeria ever getting their national power grid working. It's too big, too complex with too many moving parts. The only pathway forward is by state or regional grids. Till this is understood, there will never be power.
I saw this when I was applying for internships in the U.S back when I was in Uni. My other friends all got invites, I never got one. My grades were much better, we wrote the same letters. It was weird. Ended up doing my internship in China.
This is an experiment carried out my professors at MIT.
They found that with equal qualifications people with black sounding names were rejected at ALL levels.

The biggest extra cost for manufacturing in Nigeria is extortion. If all forms of extortion are removed, particularly from the highways, productivity will go up significantly.

Copying a definition without citation is plagiarism. Those are not her words - they are taken from some other source. The source needs to be indicated, otherwise she is passing off someone else's work as hers.
NGN token is being removed from Binance. Binance never had the right to create an NGN token, just like it did not create a EUR token or mirror any other countries currency. If it wanted NGN, then it have bought NGN and stored it in a bank in Nigeria.
The narrative of Africa is way worse than the reality. In reality, Africa has moved forward rapidly over the last 10 years, but numerically, it looks really bad. This bad look is mostly because of currency depreciations, which has made all numbers look bad. But these currency
There is only one reason for the massive devaluation of the Naira - the central bank has printed an insane amount of Naira over the last 8 years. That's what plunged people into poverty. It's not crypto or lack of exports or anything. It's naira printing.

It is not just the right, it is the duty of every human to interfere and intervene anytime suffering is being brought down on innocent people. There are always four types of people: those that execute a holocaust, those that support it, those that keep silent, and those that
I think we should have A380s that fly between african cities like Lagos and Abuja. People stand in the plane (no seats), and it can carry 2,000 to 3,000 people in one journey at $7 a trip.

Make it a tech business networking space. Every tech business can rent one chair, which they can use anytime they are in Abuja. Have weekly Demo's of new startups there (Startup Friday). All "chair renters" can come in to listen to pitches. Like a central point for early stage
One thing I have noticed with our training programs: Nigeria has way less female backend coders than Kenya. The majority of good female coders are from Kenya.
@Ssaasquatch
The fundamental issue is that time is cheap in Nigeria. So many people underemployed that you can pay peanuts and they would do it for you.
Akwa Ibom will be the breakout state in Nigeria. It has everything going for it - high oil revenues, single religion and single ethnicity, good education, coastal, a single major urban center, low conflict, welcoming culture.
I strongly believe in hiring for merit. But I also believe in hiring before people are fully ready, and hiring people who otherwise would not have a chance.
Every day, I send one cold email or a DM. Even if it does not work, it removes fear of rejection, and helps you refine your own thinking. You consider - what did I do wrong last pitch, and how can I improve it? And occasionally, you get meetings out of it.
We migrated an app from 6 servers to one, switched from microservices to monolith, went from pure PHP to mixed PHP + Python, and the best part....
Nobody noticed.
You will always fall back to the same habits, the same patterns and the same routines, if you are in the same place, meeting the same people and doing the same things. No matter how much you want to change, you will slowly revert back. To change yourself, change your place,

Why not rather make the estate owners build large underground pipes through their estates? This is cheaper than demolishing houses, and any estate that refuses to invest in this can then bear the penalty.
NGN to USDT trading on Binance should be stopped. I am not normally one for protectionism, but people speculate on crypto. Right now they are speculating on NGN-USDT, and it's affecting the real economy.
Crypto is a thin trading layer, but it changes the perceived value of the
It's been a busy week. HNGx Finalist event (we trained 400+ finalists). Then we facilitated the interview of 40 people for American companies. Followed by the Akwa Ibom Tech week. Then a bunch of meetings with hubs/training in AKS to figure out how we scale this.
I really dislike people who virtue signal all the time. With their fake humility. Learn to be you, with all your flaws and weirdnesses. You don't need to be a fake you to please us the audience, we don't care, and we will forget you in 2 days when you die.

Crime stops when people know about it. I'm not here to help criminals by hiding the horrific murders they are doing to earn $1,000. Everyone needs to know about it so serious action can be taken. You can choose to hide it for "pr purposes", that's not me.
In terms of building software, the hardest to build is any software that stores money. It's not the user features that are hard - it's making sure it's super secure. That's 80% of the work - and not to be done by juniors.

Every HNG program we do gets a bit better. We want a tough program that focuses on the elite, but not a mean program that discourages people who fail. It's been hard finding the balance, but we're getting better at it.
Idea: "Construction Work Gym". It's like a gym, but instead of carrying weights pointlessly, you go help out at a construction site, carrying blocks and heavy bags of cement around.
In Nigeria, if you like, try that stunt of employees quitting to join you as you leave a company.
As you leave the office, it's the employees that will lock the gate.
Seyi Tinubu as the next Governor of Lagos. If it's about the interests of Lagos, this would probably be the best move. He can probably create the greatest advantage for Lagos right now.
Not debating if it's right or wrong, just saying that based on current realities.
Binance is doing NGN2.3billion in daily trades. Does this mean that it is taking deposits of billions? Which bank handles Binance balance?
You can do a spot buy of ngn on Binance with no problem rn. Where is the naira it uses to fulfill this sitting?
Curious to learn.
Social media makes people sometimes mix up friends and acquaintances. Your friends:
1. Check up on you when you go silent
2. Call you to hang out without a reason
3. Send opportunities and things that help you your way.
Anyone not doing that is not really your friend.
If you love cars, buying a nice car is not a waste of money, it's the reason why you worked so hard. The rich people driving ugly cars just don't like cars. But there is something else they like that they are spending heavily on.

Realistically, if you raise $2m funding for an African startup, this is like raising $20m funding for a U.S based startup. Salaries are lower in Africa. The potential for revenue is lower. You must pace yourself properly.

I don't know if the anti-DEI people realise that when they only allow merit in college admissions, 95% of the students of elite colleges will become Chinese.
A country builds capacity in an industry by building simple versions of that industry and evolving into more complex version. Not by trying to build the most complex version at the start. That requires importing experts, and your own people don't have fundamental knowledge then.
