What are you even supposed to say to children? “Don’t do drugs!”

For the record, I don’t care if people smoke (or drink!), but the imposition of the odor all over public spaces is weird and feels deeply unserious

Also: smell of cigarettes > smell of weed

@thomaschattwill People have been openly smoking weed in NY for decades, though I guess it has now gotten even more egregious. But try driving a convertible in LA - it's a little disturbing how many people are smoking while driving!!!

@thomaschattwill It‘s disgusting. I visited the city regularly from 2010 to 2012, and it is always shocking when I come back now from time to time and see how it moves, the overall present marijuana smell is making the decline an all-senses-experience.

@thomaschattwill Seattle was like that after legalization. I think it's died down a bit, in part because most weed smokers also have a vape pen.

@thomaschattwill If they passed a law that led to everyone having to smell & inhale smoke virtually every time they went out in public, all citizens would rightly be up in arms. But when the smoke is marijuana, everyone is like “Get over it! Move!”

@thomaschattwill True. And we had a good decade or two with relatively clear air. Imo, Manhattan still smells better today than ~25 years ago when it reeked of urine.

@thomaschattwill I’m all for smoking if you want to and for the legalization of pot and other drugs. But holy hell you’re right about it. It’s not pleasant to constantly have to smell that everywhere outside.
