The farmer's wife is traditionally seen as the supporting role, but for Helen Rebanks, it is a badge of honour.

This affects EVERYONE
70% of UK land is farmed. If we want nature to recover, this is where it happens. Farmers like @herdyshepherd1 are already doing it – farming with wildlife, not against it. But without proper funding, we risk losing it all. @RachelReevesMP: increase funding, grow our future.

The latest goverment guff about farming is… “The problem with farming is the lack of profitability” This is a short thread on why this sensible-sounding focus should be treated with great suspicion… A 🧵

If only our politicians knew the value of farming. Lets get this petition signed and embed food & farming into the national curriculum so every child learns what it takes to grow food and care for the countryside
Spot on @theshepherdswi1 👏👏 “Every child in the country should understand the different kinds of farming that we all rely on for our three meals a day.” 🌾 Helen has joined us as an ambassador for the petition to embed food, farming and sustainability into the national

@Keir_Starmer Another vacuous statement. Food security is national security and you are doing everything you can to dismantle farming in the UK.

The 1 radical thing we should be doing is building the country’s health, based on food produced by us. If you want to drive NHS waiting times down, put better food, produced by UK farmers, in hospitals. Schools, food education, respect for the land! Let’s get society healthy 1st!
Instead of pitting IHT relief and NHS waiting times against each other. we should be focusing on how British farming can be part of the national health crisis solution. 🇬🇧👩⚕️ That was the message from FG's online editor @emily_llou 📣 READ MORE 🔗 https://t.co/zOSTyBUJ3R

If the government continue not to listen and engage with workable solutions we are going to lose so much more than family farms. Food security matters. Support British.

And a ‘fair playing field’ is not asking farmers to run 2/3 other jobs/businesses to make ends meet when they already have an incredibly demanding job.

A ‘fair playing field’ is when farmers are paid properly for what we grow. A ‘fair playing field’ is not being undercut by cheap imports produced to lower welfare standards. We already pay our taxes.

I’m incensed watching the PM talk about farmers like this. We don’t want a tax break we want a fair playing field. Shame on him and well done to all the farmers who blocked him in today - keep going.
"...Or do we want to give tax breaks for farmers? We can't have both." Sir Keir Starmer reacts to the farmer's protest in Buckinghamshire that forced him to leave a visit to a housing development early. https://t.co/DrG6ZAFWfc 📺 Sky 501 and YouTube

Brilliant article by @willhumphries_ with @JoeWStanley & @herdyshepherd1 Rebanks said some farmers believe “intentional harm” is being done to farming by the government but added: “Maybe they are just staggeringly shit at their jobs.” Too true

Whatever one’s thoughts on the farmers’ protests, it’s a desperate state of affairs for any nation - especially an island nation - when the social contract between the government and its farmers is so terribly fractured. Inheritance tax is just part of the wider problem.
