Programming = people. You can't be a good programmer without good cooperation with other people.
The common assumption is that senior devs earn more because of their better coding skills. The reality is that senior engineers earn more because they can manage a team, mentor others, influence the technical direction, and make progress by efficiently dealing with project chaos.
