Love a CBER head who says he embraces transparency, communication, and truth in public health (btw, over the years he's done this to hundreds of journalists and scientists, including many engaging in good faith on his brand of vaccine pseudoscience)

I am seeing this observational study about GLP-1s reducing death all over the place, and want to note here why I am pretty skeptical of the results. I'd bet there would be an effect on overall mortality, but I doubt it would be this big. The first reason is that we have

We don't know the actual savings Medicare is getting for each drug, because Medicare can't disclose net prices. That's nonsensical. Hospitals and health insurers have to publish negotiated rates (net prices) for everything. Why should drugs be different?

We @statnews are out with a new series, Health Care’s Colossus, that examines the ways UnitedHealth Group has accumulated power and exploited it for profit. It has morphed into a modern-day Standard Oil, exerting dominance everywhere in health care.

I've said this before but it bears repeating given how serious and absurd this issue is: There is no greater indictment of the American healthcare system than the reality that it's often cheaper to bypass the entities you pay to get the medical services you need to live
