New in @JAMANetworkOpen! We found limited concordance between patient-reported reasons for visiting the ED and their discharge diagnosis. Findings highlight uncertainties and also issues with iniatives using discharge diagnoses as a tool to contain "non-urgent"visits.
Study found little correlation between patients’ chief complaint in the ER and final diagnosis, demonstrating that strategies to minimize less medically urgent ED visits based on post-discharge diagnoses are questionable. @bradwrightphd.
