The Carmelites in Wyoming are building a monastery with the help of CNC machines. We need more Gothic architecture. But the reason some feel conflicted by having a machine do the sculpting is because of the symbolic dimension of work. https://t.co/EHKI9bLoGB

NEW: Artificial general intelligence isn’t about curing cancer or American dominance. According to Open AI & Microsoft it’s about one thing – massive profits. And they’re engaged in a covert campaign to eliminate any regulation that might slow their path to consolidating power.

Happy to bet Nick Bostrom $100,000 proceeds to charity, that I can find a dozen problems that human can readily solve that AI’s cannot reliably solve, two years from today.

Nick Bostrom says we can no longer be confident that Superintelligence is far away It could emerge within a year or two, or even sooner, if someone in any AI lab discovers a key unlock we've all missed

Soooo many people posted it as a real picture… Most people haven't realized, but the world has changed. Every single piece of digital content should be considered potentially fake.

The countdown until we are told that LLMs are “too big to fail” starts now. “We can’t afford to lose to China”, they will say, accepting their multibillion dollar bailouts.

And Wall Street loves it. Palantir stock is outpacing the S&P 500. Investors don’t just see a tech company, they see a new kind of infrastructure. It’s no longer a controversial startup… It’s the backbone of America’s surveillance machine.

I very much enjoyed @roughtype's Superbloom. Nice work. I especially appreciated the tie b/w Claude Shannon and the News Feed.

Yes. Writing is not a second thing that happens after thinking. The act of writing is an act of thinking. Writing *is* thinking. Students, academics, and anyone else who outsources their writing to LLMs will find their screens full of words and their minds emptied of thought.
