@nickgraynews
asked me to speak at his half-day conference.
I declined. I felt soul-broke. I was externally successful but inside I was empty. What did I have to offer anyone?
"Talk about that," Nick said. So I did, making a public intention of paying my SOUL
Why is it so hard for makers to recognize & recover from burnout?
Because the things we create aren't just businesses. They are our art, our fire, the things we put into the world to express what it is to be alive.
Treating burnout means temporarily not living our purpose.
I am so glad I nomaded and lived off of nothing for 3 years.
Now, with any risk I want to take, any dream I want to chase, I'm not scared to lose my standard of living.
I can be happy anywhere with any amount.
So, bring it.

I just wrote 51,737 words in 30 days.
This will forever change how I write, because it's forever changed what I'm capable of.
Big achievements are simple. Just show up every day.
Thank you for cheering me on!
Six months of resistance training. Zero missed sessions.
When I started, I said I wanted to go an entire year without missing a single session.
Everyone told me I was crazy.
Now I'm already halfway there!

A homeless man in Austin stopped me from getting carjacked/attacked many years ago! I'd given him cold coconut water to watch my car (didn't have cash) and he got between me and the scary dude and said, "She's with me!"
He coulda saved my life that night.

So much time goes into a project that may never have a positive ROI. Much easier to stop.

Delta variant is SUPER contagious. I went out w/ 7 friends a week ago, 6 of us got covid!
Almost all are vaccinated. A third of my positive friends have already gotten COVID in the past, too.
Be careful out there folks.
The first time I ever spoke at an event, 200+ people showed up for my talk 😱
I was TERRIFIED. I would've crumbled if not for a stranger in the front row who smiled every time I looked his way.
Each time I felt nervous, I'd find his smile and instantly relax.
That talk led to

My most serious ex reached out yesterday to close one of our joint accounts.
I haven't had any contact with him in almost a year. He's married now.
I congratulated him and wished him the best.
I don't think we'll ever speak again. 🧵
I'm working happily on a project, smiling, energized... but this morning I was so stressed I couldn't eat. 😭
What fixed it?
A simple 3 mile run this morning. That's it!
Exercise is everything. 💖

A quora post in 2019 changed my life.
Someone asked why their marriage sucked. The top answer said, "Those in happy marriages have well managed lives in all areas: career, fitness, friendships, family."
I started managing my whole life & began seeing all areas flourish.
Your problems don't exist on an island.
Your relationships are related to your career.
Your career is related to your fitness.
Your fitness is related to your relationships.
It's absolutely possible to win in one of these areas but not the others.
But if you make a major

Chatted w/ a friend last night who is still unrecovered from burnout 3 years later.
Me too.
Imagine how much more alive he and I could have felt for years(!) if we weren't constantly worn down.
Maybe preventing burnout is a much bigger deal than we think it is.
