This is good! Now pass the proposed law to reimburse schools for the penalty to bring some of them back to the classroom! @GregAbbott_TX.

Today, I signed a law to provide retired Texas teachers with a cost of living adjustment to boost their income amid rising inflation. Proud to support our retired teachers who dedicated their careers to educating the next generation of Texans.

@DeAngelisCorey Respectfully, we don’t fear competition. Take your kids to private schools. You’ve always had that choice. Some of our fears are (see photo of notes):. And yes, we ARE conservative!.*We say the pledge daily.*We have strict dress code.*We have internal accountability.*We excel!

This quote would be funny if it were not so sad: “Teachers can’t get a raise unless I pay for some kids private school?” #MarkWhite.

We are engaged. Drop by our public schools and let us explain how school choice is working. Now if you are asking Texans if they support taking taxpayer money going to private entities without accountability and without transparency, then the answer is no. @tars_tarsed.

If you support school choice in Texas, you MUST get engaged. You matter most in this process. Get in the game, get involved, contact your elected officials, and make your voice heard. #txlege @TPPF.

Our plumbing manager asked me yesterday why it didn’t pass (his wife is retired teacher, so he understands the need for $$$).When I told him about “school choice” aka vouchers, he worded a beautiful question. “Teachers can’t get a raise unless I pay for some kids private school?”.

Student results are based on a test written with readability above grade level. When a 3rd grader takes a test with readability on the 3rd grade level, then we will have something to analyze.

It is not about school choice. School choice already exists. Majority are against sending taxpayer money to private entities without accountability and without transparency.

We appreciate your hard work and all that you do for rural Texas!! I fully believe @GovAbbott & @DanPatrick are waking up the sleeping giant. Teachers are not seen as a group who votes. We need educators to vote!! @OfficialATPE @txstateteachers @TRTA.

HB 100 was my signature piece of legislation for the 88th Regular Legislative Session. I'm very sad to say that it ultimately did not pass! Below is my statement.

The senate version of HB100 lowered increases for school safety, lowered increases for small/midsize allotment, lowered transportation from $1.50/mi to $1.00/mi. Vouchers will subsidize the wealthy. Students from economically challenged homes will not be able to use vouchers.

I don’t think Texas spends enough on public education. I think a big increase and esas could go hand in hand and make everyone better.

Actually, those supporting vouchers are risking the sleeping giant to wake up and vote them out! Mess with their pocket books over vouchers??? Not smart!.

This is correct. Rural House Republicans are in a bind right now because the Senate has attached vouchers to school finance and teacher raises. They’ll have to vote against raises to preserve rural schools. Getting a raise assumes one has a place to work in which to get a raise.

That's a joke. The best schools in Houston, Dallas, Austin, Ft.W. don't enroll kids from the wrong neighborhoods.

Make no mistake about it. If teachers do not get the raise they deserve it will be because of the strong push for vouchers. @Menendez4Texas has pushed back strong on vouchers to apply that money where it is most needed.
