One of the best deep dives I have read!.
Thrilled that my essay on the perception of time is finally published. In it, I challenge the idea that animals explicitly estimate the duration of ~second-long intervals internally using neuronal representations of time. A 🧵to explain this upsetting idea.

Learned a ton from @mjaz_jazlab & @FieteGroup! We show that when monkeys mentally navigate between points on a memorized (1D) map, dynamics in the entorhinal cortex reflects the regularity of landmarks and has a signature of grid cell cont. attractor states.
New Jazlab work! When monkeys produce vectors on a map w/o visual feedback, an endogenously activated cognitive map in the entorhinal cortex reflects animals' knowledge about the (invisible) intervening landmarks. Exciting work by @sujayane w/ @FieteGroup
