A quick thread as I watch some Democrats poke at the idea that there was something wrong with the election. There wasn't, and let's not find ourselves stoking the same conspiracies as election deniers just because our side didn't win. 1/

@AsteadWH Great coverage Astead. The Democratic ticket never acknowledged that a democracy that does not deliver consistently for people in hardship has parts of it perhaps worth jettisoning. People in pain clearly feel that way and Harris campaign message glazed over it.

From colleague @holmeslybrand: The Philadelphia Police Department told CNN they were not aware what Trump was referring to and did not know of any issues with voting that required a law enforcement response.

SCOOP: We got a recording of an RNC training session in which an election-integrity director downplays the threat of noncitizen voting and touts protections to stop such votes. The video contradicts Trump's baseless claims of widespread noncitizen voting.

In a private video training session, a top Pennsylvania Republican National Committee official reassured a new poll watcher that undocumented people could not possibly vote in the state.

1. As of this week, @USDOT’s automatic refunds rule is in full effect. If an airline cancels or significantly changes your flight and you don’t rebook, you’re entitled to an automatic refund. If you buy in-flight wifi and it doesn’t work, you’re entitled to an automatic refund.
Passengers deserve to get their money back when an airline owes them—without headaches or haggling. Today, our automatic refund rule goes into full effect. Airlines are required to provide prompt cash refunds without passengers having to ask.

"Over 94 percent of Connection readers report having confidence in the magazine’s content. Freed from the pressures of the #algorithm, Costco Connection’s benchmarks of success are a throwback to an earlier #media age." cc @subbuvincent
(I'm very basic) Costco Has a Magazine and It’s Thriving Each month, 15.4 million copies of Costco Connection are mailed out to members. Another 300,000 are distributed via Costco warehouses. It is now the nation’s third largest magazine. https://t.co/MhsQM6Fuz3

1/ THREAD: After a large solar farm was proposed, it seemed to many in Knox Co., Ohio that an anti-solar machine took over news & politics overnight. They were right. Here’s how fossil fuel interests shaped the conversation, and how a hometown paper’s new owners amplified it 👇

Less than a year ago, @geoffreyhinton and I had a public discussion about #AI’s history and its implications of the future. https://t.co/yKLlvVNhjo
For more than twenty years, I’ve studied and admired the work of @geoffreyhinton . We’ve had many private conversations. But indeed this is the first time we’ve done a public talk together, thanks to @radicalvcfund @UofT @StanfordHAI . The full talk is now linked below 👇🙏 1/

Important article on the 80 million poor and low-income voters…and how consequential they are to our elections and politics. @KairosCenterNYC @UniteThePoor
In American political journalism, especially at the national/broadcast level, we are writing off an entire section of the electorate - low-income and poor Americans - as people whose votes matter in an election. https://t.co/33ryE6bhU4

@subbuvincent Thanks for your reporting on the role of poor & low-income people in this election—and why we’re not hearing more about this powerful swing vote.

This is full of excellent advice to political reporters about the need to interview low-income voters and some practical how-to’s (since they so often seem to find it impossible)

"My experience is if you show interest and are interested in what they are facing, they can sense that and speak to you. And if they don’t want to talk, don’t push it. No one owes us a conversation.” - Gary Fields, Associated Press' Democracy reporter.

“The powerful get to choose the journalists they speak to. Everyone else does not. They get whoever shows up. They have the right to reserve their trust and candor until it is earned. Showing up once is the bar on the floor. Showing up consistently is the work” -@hbcompass
