@straczynski Dear Michael, I found a statement arguing that the famous sentence pronounced by The Woodsman in Twin Peaks: The Return part 8 ("This is the water, and this is the well. Drink full, and descend") was actually paraphrasing something you had said -- is this correct? 🤔

Old Peter isn't in the story. And that's a Marvel decision, it has nothing to do with me.
@Marinazzer @straczynski Not true you can just age Peter

The larger point being this is a strictly no-win scenario; whichever way you frame the story, some will like the way the past was handled and some won't. It's impossible to please everyone on this, and that's fine; something written to please everyone ultimately pleases no one.

The point is presentation, not timeline. If we did a new story during now-late-20s Peter's college years (60s-70s) and the campus was full of hippies and anti-Vietnam War protestors, there would be plenty of folks to decry this as anachronistic and not making sense with his age.
@straczynski The first way is much better imo, Marvel has infinite time shenanigans to justify that Spiderman grew up in the 50s-60s and now is "stuck" in his age like every other character If you adjust Peter's (or any character) life to our timeline you lose some stories

If matter can't be created from nothing then where did our universe of matter come from?

It may feel like a fork but it's set in within the original continuity.
@straczynski Does this series plan to stay within the continuity, or basically be a fork? I'd rather the latter so you have the freedom to do what you need to do and I don't think I'm alone in that.

The problem: Peter is mid-20s in 2025. If the story of his college years is set in 1960's folks will say, rightly, "this doesn't make sense." If the story is set when a mid-20s Peter would *actually have been in college* people will say, rightly, "this doesn't make sense.
@straczynski Can you help a dumb ass like me out please? Is this meant to be a modern retooling of a 70s era Spidey story? The incorporation of computers and the Internet threw me off.

This is absolute kaka. The plane wasn't hit by cosmic rays from another galaxy. It ran into the well-documented Newark Triangle, which is actually just one point, which is Newark, but in New Jersey that's all that's ever been required, because Newark.

It was more widespread than Q5. On She-Ra "consultants" said she shouldn't punch but spin like a ballerina and kick almost by accident; on another show a psychologist loudly protested the content until they were hired, then it stopped even though no changes were made.
@inkfycreates "They always did this" nope - This example was specifically Q-5, a group of college educated people who had zero real world study or experience in making children's programming. They were the "Sweet Baby" of their day and sank the Emmy winning Real Ghostbusters. (1/2)

M,SW showrunner David Moessinger (who I also worked with on Jake and the Fatman, along with co-showrunner Jeri Taylor) taught me a ton about structuring an hour long show, because prior to those two I'd primarily written half-hours. They were both very gracious and helpful.
@DavidKa69428571 It was so great. And what's funny is that I've been watching Murder, She Wrote again after decades, and Straczynski wrote AND produced a bunch of episodes of that show before he did Babylon 5. So they must have given him a bunch of good advice on how to do a really good show.

I didn't but happily Angelina got a nomination.
@straczynski Got an Oscar nod for it too, if I recall correctly.
