🚨 A bill that would have allowed regular inspections at privately operated juvenile detention facilities by an independent third party will not pass this year. The bill was a response to recent reports of solitary confinement at juvenile facilities in Tennessee.

Young people incarcerated in NY jails allege that they’ve been repeatedly denied their legal right to education and that the city has failed to comply with a 2016 court order requiring education access for people between 18 and 21 held in in Department of Correction custody.

Pennsylvania's House Children and Youth Committee approves three bills that will better protect youth in state detention centers. The proposals follow a series of scandals across the state that uncovered inadequate and abusive care... including solitary.

House Bill 1167, of which Rep. Regina English, a Colorado Springs Democrat, is the sole sponsor, would require the State Board of Education to make rules banning seclusion by Nov. 1.

Kids, disproportionately kids with disabilities, have been put in these seclusion rooms for instances such as throwing a stuffed animal. Would you lock your child in a room for hours because they threw a stuffed animal?

Colorado schools are currently allowed to put students in seclusion rooms. There, students are alone with the door closed for (sometimes) hours on end. Referred to by faculty as "quiet rooms" or "relaxation rooms," students call them "torture rooms". https://t.co/OgUMukOgwH
