College baseball has a major issue that needs to be addressed if the game is to continue to grow. That issue is umpires.
Every day umpires look in the mirror and say, “how can I make today about me?”
This is the most egregious ejection I’ve ever seen. Kolby Branch was ejected for throwing his helmet and celebrating his WALK OFF GRAND SLAM. He is now suspended today. Home plate umpire… Jeff Macias. Shocker.
Vol Baseball brought in one of the best transfer portal classes for the 2024 season. Here’s a quick preview of the top 5 incoming transfers
(A thread 🧵):
Cannon Peebles had a phenomenal freshman season at NC State. Since transferring to Tennessee he’s really struggled at the plate.
Last night he hit his first home run as a Vol and the reaction from his teammates is everything
Mike Bianco hates fun. Ump did the right thing and let a kid show emotion in a huge spot and Bianco wants him ejected. There is no place in college baseball for people like this.
Can’t talk Vol baseball without some half minded fool bringing up the size of LNS. In 9 road games the Vols have hit 28 homers.
UT has hit 2.56 homers per game at home and 3.11 homers per game on the road.
No matter where the Vols play they rake.
How good is the SEC this season? Auburn is dead last in the SEC with a 4-20 conference record. They are also 19-4 in non conference games and 2-1 vs the ACC.
If Auburn played in the ACC we’d be talking regular season title race
Home plate umpire Nicholas Katchur got jealous of Billy Barrels ability to hit baseballs 400 ft so he decided to give out warnings
Every day umpires look in the mirror and say “how can I make today about me”
This is the most unprofessional broadcast team I’ve ever seen for the Tennessee @ Kentucky series
Actively cheering and rooting for Kentucky, zero opponent research, incorrect name pronunciations, and the camera consistently pointed away from the play.
Source: IF Billy Amick is taking a visit to Tennessee today
Amick slashed .413/.464/.772 in 46 games last season at Clemson. Amick’s breakout sophomore campaign with the Tigers last season has made him one of the top players in the transfer portal this off season
According to mlbdotcom, Tennessee has 6 players in the top 100 draft prospects for this years MLB draft in July
Billy Amick (15)
Christian Moore (52)
Drew Beam (57)
Kavares Tears (64)
Blake Burke (67)
Dylan Dreiling (81)
Blake Burke was ejected by home plate umpire Kevin Sweeney for carrying his bat too far down the first base line
Every day umpires wake up and say, “how can I make today about me?”
@MarreroLuisf
@CodifyBaseball
He’s trying to foul that pitch off and stay alive because he got fooled. Every player will cast like that at time but Ohtani has a much longer swing and long arms so his cast is longer than most others
The interference rule at 1B is the dumbest rule in sports. They require you to run in foul territory to touch a base that is completely in fair territory. You have to touch the base but you’re never allowed back in fair territory to actually touch it.
27 days until Tennessee baseball is back
On May 19, 2022 the Vols scored 27 runs in Starkville. Lipcius, Beck, and Gilbert hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the top of the 1st to start a 9 inning onslaught and spark a 27-2 victory
The Nationals recalled Trey Lipscomb 3 days ago. Since then he’s made appearances at both 1B and 3B.
Looks as if the Nationals want to find a spot for his bat in the lineup as often as possible
Source: INF Billy Amick is expected to commit to the Vols at some point soon. This is another massive win in the transfer portal for Vitello and his staff.
VFL Chase Dollander strikes out 12 in just 5.1 innings last night. Dollander has 27 punch outs in 15.1 innings of work this season. He is dominating the Northwest League
Jordan Beck is hitting.318 with 4 homers in 44 AB to start the year in AAA Albuquerque. Very well could see him making his big league debut this season
Four former Vol baseball players from the 2022 roster will be in major league camp this spring
Drew Gilbert (Mets)
Jordan Beck (Rockies)
Trey Lipscomb (Nationals)
Ben Joyce (Angels)
Vol baseball has now hit 49 home runs in just 18 games this season. That’s good for 2nd in the nation.
In 2022, the Vols hit 54 home runs through their first 18 games.
This 2024 team has some tremendous offensive firepower.
Vol baseball stat of the day
Tennessee has hit 126 home runs this season. Their next 2 SEC opponents, Vanderbilt and South Carolina, have hit a COMBINED 127 home runs.
Tennessee vs Vanderbilt rivalry history
Tennessee leads the all time series 184-164
Tennessee has won 7 straight
Tennessee’s longest win streak is 21 games
Vanderbilt’s longest win streak is 9 games
Vol baseball stat of the day:
The first time Tennessee and Kentucky played a game was in 1909. The Vols won 11-4 and swept that 3 game series. Overall the Vols are 182-155 against Kentucky.
@Hawksian
@bigdonkey47
We’re shaving what a minute or two off the game time? College games don’t have a length issue anyways. MLB doesn’t have an issue either imo but the problem isn’t in the field it’s the 90 min of commercials being run during every game
Tennessee has hit 7 grand slams this season tying a program record. The Vols have done this in just 29 games.
They are on pace to tie the all time record of 14 and potentially break it with a postseason run.
Vol baseball commit
@AustinBreedlov5
has started 11 games for Cleveland State this season. In 66.2 IP he has struck out 105 batters which is the most strikeouts in the country for a juco pitcher
Keep his name in the back of your minds for next season
The Vols added another arm to their pitching staff yesterday getting a commitment from juco RHP Austin Breedlove. He has 2 years of eligibility left.
@AustinBreedlov5
was kind enough to answer some questions about his commitment.
This Tennessee baseball team has dude after dude who rakes. Dalton Bargo was brought in as a utility man and depth piece and he’s gone 4-12 with a HR in the early season
In true crybaby Clemson fashion, after this go ahead home run and the bat flip, Clemson players stole Becchetti’s bat and hid it in their own dugout. Umpires had to get involved to return it to the GT dugout.
Chase Dollander has struck out 43 batters in 24.1 innings. Not that any Tennessee fan is surprised, but Dollander’s numbers to this point in the season have been nothing but absurd
The Vols have had a player with 5+ RBI in a game 10 times this year
Curley v KSU - 9 RBI
Dreiling v UGA - 7 RBI
Stark at AU - 7 RBI
Amick v WCU - 7 RBI
Ensley at UF - 7 RBI
Chapman v UI - 6 RBI
Moore at AU - 6 RBI
Moore at UK - 6 RBI
Amick v OM - 5 RBI
Chapman v TTU - 5 RBI
Vol Baseball stat of the day:
Of the top 50 highest slugging percentages, 6 of them belong to Tennessee players.
Blake Burke .836 (11th)
Dylan Dreiling .833 (12th)
Kavares Tears .720 (22nd)
Billy Amick .789 (23rd)
Dean Curley .750 (45th)
Christian Moore .740 (49th)
