Exactly this. You just lost the best dude in the sport. Every hire will be a downgrade. Promote from within and even if things fail, you won’t get roasted for it. Hoping this is where Danny eventually lands but somehow I doubt it will be.
Self-preservation doesn't have to be Danny White's priority here. But if it is, Josh Elander is the slam dunk hire. If you promote Elander and it doesn't work, you will be forgiven. If you hire ANYONE ELSE and it doesn't work, you will not be forgiven.

Tennessee lost more than a baseball coach today. They lost one of its best ambassadors for the university! He did so many things in the community that nobody ever knew about. Just like when a dad was asked by his two daughters to get someone to read for Dr. Seuss day. Thanks TV!

Since Danny openly admitted that he has staffers talk to assistant coaches instead of having to speak to the unwashed masses himself, I guess it’s no wonder that he would want to hire somebody other than Elander
There will be major support among Tennessee fans and players for Danny White to hire associate head coach Josh Elander as Tony Vitello's replacement, but Oregon head coach Mark Wasikowski will also be a prominent name to watch.
