As a lecturer in a South African university, I agree with this decision. R5000 isn't enough to buy even 3 brand new textbooks. The cash allows students to buy all their books from the 2nd hand market. We should be moving to open source, free online resources anyway.
NFSAS used to give a R5000 voucher to students to use on textbooks. They now give R5000 cash to spend on textbooks. Sales of textbooks have fallen 40%.

A driver explained why he doesn't accept certain trips in anymore. E.g. For a R26 trip Uber takes R8 so he only makes R18 regardless of traffic conditions. A litre of petrol is over R21 so he makes a loss. Uber needs to adjust its operating model.
