While a relationship between hospital mortality and FTR exists, only a third of deaths were preceded by a complication. As such, more work is needed to better characterize the children most at risk for mortality in the absence of a preceding complication. More to come!.

This relationship was identified for specific complications, patients undergoing general surgical procedures, and infants (<1 year old). Our findings suggest FTR could be a useful quality metric when evaluated among higher risk pediatric patients.
