In today's version of this: OpenAI is going to have a web browser. But, unlike Chrome or Firefox or Safari, they're going to have a person (i.e., an AI) personally watch everything you (and your friends and everyone else) do. Doesn't that sound great?

In 2012 I participated in a small group discussion led by @doctorow. I chanced into it, but he painted a picture I've thought about often in the years since, and that has changed the way I see the world.

I find conversations around AGI/Superintelligence timeline futile. It doesn't matter if it happens in 10, 30, 50 or 100 years. What is important, with high probability it will happen. We need to prepare humanity for that event, learn how to coexist on this planet with an

Most digital work will be automated by 2030. The world needs more distributed data centers to reduce geopolitical pressure. Compute and chip production are still paramount for AI success. Falling behind frontier AI by a year is still acceptable to maintaining competitiveness.

I'm a big believer in open source technology. And this conversation with @arankomatsuzaki was very special to me. Aran back in 2021 contributed to GPT-J, the first open-source LLM that matched the capabilities of GPT-3. It was a glimpse of hope that open source models can be

“Use RL only when planning g doesn’t yield the predicted outcome” Yes, absolutely true. Also, this means “use RL 100% of the time, bc in reality nothing ever goes as planned and surprise is omnipresent”.

My modal story of what to expect from AI: By 2030: AI revenue accrues to hundreds of billions, yearly GDP growth increases by 1-2% due to AI, it's involved in most scientific discoveries. By 2035: AI has reached cognitive parity with humans, every remote job is done by AI, GDP

Today was my last day at xAI, the company that I helped start with Elon Musk in 2023. I still remember the day I first met Elon, we talked for hours about AI and what the future might hold. We both felt that a new AI company with a different kind of mission was needed. Building
