I had some early access to GPT-5.1 Thinking. Didn't get to try the personality features, but I've preferred it to GPT-5 so far, though I didn't have the ability to pick thinking levels Best yet "create a visually interesting twigl .app shader, make it like the ocean in a storm"

Unbelievable: the famed Berkeley Math Circle is being forced to shut down due to a bureaucratic requirement where a guest lecturer giving an hour long lesson needs to be officially fingerprinted. How is fingerprinting even still a thing in the 21st century? Chancellor Lyons

I crossed an interesting threshold yesterday, which I think many other mathematicians have been crossing recently as well. In the middle of trying to prove a result, I identified a statement that looked true and that would, if true, be useful to me. 1/3

Codex had its strongest growth in one day yesterday since the launch of gpt-5-codex. Way to motivate the team during a gnarly investigation that's making us go through every piece of infra, hardware and line of code in our system.

Worth noting that your own marginal AI use has negligible impact but that AI is an industry & uses resources at an industrial scale. It is relatively resource hungry in electricity but it seems very resource efficient in water compared to other industries.

I was really surprised when I first saw this chart on water use by data centers. Given how much it gets discussed as a supposed problem I would have expected it to be more than this.
