I’m just now catching up on the press conference earlier today from PM
@JustinTrudeau
. I’m just going to say it (and I don’t care about the trolls who will come after me): PM Trudeau is the leader we needed during this crisis. I am so proud to be Canadian.
#COVID19
As most of you know, I am often critical of police, specifically their response to the convoy. I want to say that in this instance, I am impressed with and grateful for the police that have come from across the country to move these extremists out of our city. Thank you.
I have lost all confidence in the Ottawa Police Service. I know there are some good officers on the force, but I just don’t trust that they will keep me and my family safe. We are on our own.
Just a friendly reminder to Ottawa residents: municipal elections are happening this fall. Remember who the leaders were during this occupation - those that took a stand and acted.
After today, I am setting up some rules for engagement with me on this platform. I will block you if you do the following:
1. Call me a cunt, bitch, etc.
2. Encourage me to kill myself (or others)
3. Spew hate against women, people of colour, members of the LGBTQ2 community
This stopped being a “protest” days ago.
This is an unlawful occupation of our city.
It is time for city leaders to step up and make the
#FluTrucksKlan
leave our city.
#GoHomeTruckers
#OttawaStrong
I will leave you all with this one final thought before my Twitter hiatus: I spent the last 3.5 yrs being targeted and repeatedly attacked by the Watson Club - and this city just re-elected all of them. So, yeah, it feels personal to me.
My statement regarding the events of today. Please note that I will not be commenting on this matter any further. I have relayed the statement below to the Transit Commission Chair and consider this matter closed.
No matter how much lipstick (bouncy castles, saunas, DJs, etc) you put on it - this is still an illegal occupation led by white supremacists using terrorist tactics to hold a city hostage.
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.
To those attending the “protest” in
#Ottawa
today: you are knowingly attending an event where racist and nazi iconography is being displayed. By attending, you are confirming that you stand with these racists. It’s no longer “a few bad apples” - you are the bad apples.
Here’s an unpopular opinion: perhaps religious schools shouldn’t receive public funding.
I say this as someone who attended Catholic school from ages 4-18
#BeatriceDesloges
If I hear one more person use the argument of “I don’t want to have to pay for free transit on my property taxes! I don’t even use it!”…. I am gonna lose it. I don’t have any children, but school tax is on my property tax bill.
Everyone - please be kind to the OC Transpo front line staff this morning. The delays are NOT their fault and if they don’t have the info you are looking for, it’s because it wasn’t given to them. Please be kind to one another. These folks are working people just like us.
PROTESTORS: We told you to leave. We gave you time to leave. We were slow and methodical, yet you were assaultive and aggressive with officers and the horses. Based on your behaviour, we are responding by including helmets and batons for our safety.
There is a vocal minority on here that believe I should get kicked off of Transit Commission for expressing my opinion about
#RickChiarelli
. Well, if it happens, so be it. I will NEVER stop calling out sexual harassment, misogyny & sexism. Come at me - I dare you.
Seeing folks waiting on OC Transpo bus and train platforms in the pouring rain makes me ask: why are the platforms not sheltered from the weather? This is going to be hell in the winter (think freezing rain).
I have been taking Paxlovid for the past 4 days and have only just now looked at the expiry date - they’ve been expired a year. It’s probably fine, right?
Though, I would like to know why
@ShopprsDrugMart
still had these in their inventory and why they were dispensed to me.
FYI tweeps - I have now locked my account and starting tomorrow, I will be taking a Twitter hiatus for a while. I’m heartbroken and frustrated and I honestly don’t know if I can live in this city anymore.
I started in the
#GoC
as a casual CR-04 and worked my way up. Today is the result of hard work, taking opportunities as they come, and bring fortunate enough to work for some amazing humans. It’s a good day.

I have had enough. Brakes, doors, onboard computers, power connectors, flat wheels, odours, transponders, freezing stations, pieces coming off of the trains. 1/9
Remember that time that I called out the problems with the
#OttawaLRT
and got reprimanded for undermining the public confidence in the system? Yeah... about that....
I’m thoroughly entertained when people seem to think they are insulting me by calling me a bureaucrat. I’m serving my country in my role as a public servant and am proud to do so.
#ProudPublicServant
If you have been following the
#LRTInquiry
- and are shocked by the things you are learning - remember that the
#WatsonClub
tried to stop this. They didn’t want you to know these things. We owe our thanks to Councillors
@cmckenney
,
@ShawnMenard1
& others, as well as
@jchianello
.
Does anyone else think that Sutcliffe’s promise of “more dog parks” feels a bit like a student council candidate promising more dances, or is that just me?

My account has been set to private for less than 12 hours and I can already feel my mental health improving due to the lack of hateful comments. I may never go back to a public account.
OPS comms is currently being run through the ICC. I don’t know who at the ICC is running things, but I would like to tell that human that they are doing an excellent job.
Also, I’m really glad the horse wasn’t hurt. I’ve been worried about the horses all day.
We hear your concern for people on the ground after the horses dispersed a crowd. Anyone who fell got up and walked away. We're unaware of any injuries. A bicycle was thrown at the horse further down the line and caused the horse to trip. The horse was uninjured.
The real estate market is so brutal right now. I can’t compete with people who have endless buckets of money and are willing to offer $50k - $100k over asking and have no conditions. This is insane... absolute insanity....
The mayor of Ottawa gets upset about an article calling the city overrated, but basically says nothing about the appalling failures of our public transit system. This is who you voted for, Ottawa - he’s a retail politician.
I don't normally comment on stories like this, but the headline, the article, and the study itself are misleading and also missing the point. I've heard from a number of people in Ottawa who share my view. So I feel compelled to come to the defence of our city. 1/
In a city vehicle and on city time (I assume). What is he even doing there when the buses aren’t running downtown?
Rest assured, I will be following up with the GM of
@OC_Transpo
first thing tomorrow morning.
Let’s just call a spade a spade. This system is poorly designed and uses trains/infrastructure that is not built for our climate.
#P3Fail

This tweet may be controversial, but I won’t be deleting it.
Major infrastructure failure halts east-end LRT service as winter storm approaches
Transit riders on the LRT were once again forced off of their trains and onto replacement buses after a problem with a piece of the overheard power system.

TOMORROW AND MY DAD IS GETTING HIS NEXT WEEKEND AND I AM SO EXCITED AND RELIEVED THAT I AM TWEETING IN ALL CAPS!!!!
Can we please talk about the fact that
@JimWatsonOttawa
initially blamed the Deputy Clerk (a woman) for the muting of
@dianedeans
mic, and then admitted it was him the next day? That’s not leadership. That’s not gentlemanly. He needs to publicly apologize to the Deputy Clerk.
I made my account "private" 2 days ago. Prior to that, I was receiving upwards of 50 hateful responses and messages a day. Since I made my account private, ZERO. This is one of the best decisions I have made in a long time.
Ladies… pro-tip: if you see a man in a store without a mask, do not politely suggest he put one on. Chances are he’s going to verbally assault you and threaten physical assault.
How do I know? It just happened to me.
Dear Ottawa Transit Users: if there is an individual with a mobility device or guide dog, please allow them to go ahead of you. Again tonight, I had to step in and ask people to let the lady with the guide dog go down the stairs. Be better than you currently are, Ottawa.

Ok look… I have had it. If you come into my mentions with conspiracy theory bullsh*t about vaccines and compare pandemic public health measures to Nazism… you’re gonna get blocked. I have no patience for that kind of sh*t. I’m done being nice.
I have an event this weekend at the Nepean Sportsplex, so I decided to see how long it would take me to get there on OCTranspo.
2 HOURS (bus, train, bus) vs. 25 MINUTES by car.
If
@ottawacity
wants to encourage ridership, maybe make it more convenient to take public transit.
So, let me get this straight:
Those protesting the violence in Gaza are ticketed for using a handheld megaphone.
And these clowns can set off cherry bombs and fireworks without consequences.
Who, exactly, do the
@OttawaPolice
work for? Not the citizens of Ottawa it seems.
Another volley of convoy fireworks in Ottawa’s downtown core.
Ottawa Police left the scene 10-20 mins ago and no police presence in the area.

I have an anxiety disorder and occasionally suffer from situational depression. The current situation has been challenging for me from a mental health perspective. I found myself struggling today. If you find yourself struggling, remember: it’s ok to not be ok.
Update: I am taking concrete steps to addressing the allegations made against me by Jim Watson during the LRT Inquiry this afternoon. I will be working on these over the weekend and will share more when I have made some decisions.
One would think that an incumbent like Hubley would actually purchase his campaign website domain before putting it all over his campaign materials. But alas, nope. This low level of effort lines up well with his track record as city councillor.
This is the kind of sh*t that strong women like
@cathmckenna
have to put up with on a daily basis. The fact that this dude took it to a sexual level is disgusting. Minister McKenna, I will always have your back against the disgusting misogynistic trolls. 👊🏻
Choices have consequences. That’s why I have emailed my MP and told them that as a result of their support of Sutcliffe, I am cancelling my party membership that I have held for 23 years and they will not have my vote in the next election. It’s time to find a new political home.
When I read the headline, I thought this was an article from
@TheOnion
. Nope - this is the reality for Ottawa residents. We have a $2.3B public transit system that can't handle... the public.
"Who could have predicted all of the [problems with the LRT]" - Allan Hubley
Well, Allan, given that you knew of the issues during testing and didn't share that information with Commission... YOU.
Introducing the newest member of the Wright-Gilbert family: Penelope (Penny for short)
We are currently in the car on our way back to the cottage so Penny can meet her big brother, Grady.
In case you read this and think it’s true - let me tell you that it is absolutely false. Public Servants are not getting a paid vacation to sit at home on the taxpayers’ dime. We are working - all day, everyday.
New rules for my Twitter account:
1. If you misgender McKenney, you're blocked because at this point in the campaign, you're doing it on purpose.
2. If you smack talk public servants, you're also blocked. Reason: Obvious
There will likely be more, but these are the ones for now
Quebec is under a province-wide fire ban. Last weekend was St-Jean Baptiste Day - not one firework was heard. This weekend is Canada Day, and with that brings an influx of cottage-goers and visitors from Ontario. Fireworks were going off for hours. Disrespectful & dangerous.
FYI: I am a public servant…
I AM NOT your revenue source.
Have some respect. The PS has overwhelmingly said that we want choice in our work locations. I do not take kindly to businesses demanding that the PS be forced back to the downtown core.
This is 40.
Although this birthday isn’t exactly turning out how I had hoped (lockdown), I am grateful for all the love and light I have in my life.

THREAD
In response to
@JimWatsonOttawa
impugning my professionalism & making false allegations against me & confirming that he conspired with
@AllanHubley_23
to remove me from Transit Commission, I have filed the following affidavit with the
#OLRTInquiry
.
Dear Ottawa - I get that the streets are pretty quiet, but that doesn’t mean you get to drive like assholes. Things you need to stop doing immediately:
Speeding
Aggressive driving
Generally being assholes
Sincerely,
SWG
Here's the thing, Ottawa City Council - I have spoken with people of various political stripes and we ALL AGREE that giving $3M to build a Porsche dealership is not what this City wants/needs. Perhaps you should keep this and the 2022 election in mind when voting this morning...
To say that I am disappointed in our public transit system, and the $5M/month maintenance contractor, RTM, is an understatement. As a transit rider and a Transit Commissioner, I am frustrated and angry. Promises continue to be broken. It's time for an extension on the fare freeze
When you as a candidate host a $1200 per ticket fundraiser, you are telling the electorate that those folks who can afford those tickets are the ones you will work hardest for.
Thanks for showing us who you are Sutcliffe. We see you.
What is so triggering to the alt-right about my pronouns (she/her) in my bio? I’m genuinely asking. They frequently respond to my tweets with “pronouns in bio”. Like, thanks? I know they’re in there - I wrote my bio.
Met up with my dear friend,

Catherine has the experience and leadership to lead this city forward. Positive change starts on Monday.

In the spirit of transparency:
This evening, I wrote to the Mayor, Chair Hubley, Mr. Manconi, and my fellow Transit Commissioners regarding an extension to the fare freeze and a month of free transit.

It appears that some of the menfolk are upset that I, as a lowly woman, have opinions on political matters.
I guess me and my degree in political science should just sit down and only speak when spoken to.
Or… better idea: I will just speak louder.
