I am still very excited to attend this conference and be at CPDD again. I hope #CPDD reconsiders these names.

I understand that New Orleans is a fun place to hold a conference and so full of life and culture, and I get that CPDD would be excited to showcase that. But I am disheartened by the flippancy of these oral session titles.

“Drug Jambalaya” and “Drug Gumbo” in reference to polysubstance use feels insensitive. Referencing the serious practice of voodoo in the context of drug use also feels insensitive.

The history and context of “Second Line” goes deep. It’s used to represent honoring and mourning the death of a loved one in a community. It goes back to Jim Crow era and has evolved in its meaning since then. However, in this context, this doesn’t feel right.

“Dodging Hurricanes” in light of so many communities losing their lives, homes, and livelihoods doesn’t sit right with me.

Surprised and saddened at the titles of some of the oral sessions at #CPDD2025 in New Orleans. 1) substance use is not something to joke about and 2) New Orleans and Louisiana culture is not the butt of a joke. thread 1/…
