In San Jose, we reject this administration’s politics of fear & exclusion, which is tearing families apart. It’s important for all members of our community— regardless of immigration status— to know they have rights & that
#SJPD
will not participate in ICE enforcement activity.
For this atrocious, sickening display in our Capitol Building,
@realDonaldTrump
should be tried for
#sedition
. As a former federal prosecutor, I refer our next US Attorney General to 18 USC 2384 & 2385. May God bless and bring peace to our nation.
Happy Monday
@DLoesch
/
@NRA
: Thx for spreading the word about our new gun safety proposal. In the hour it took you to shoot & edit this video, 4 people died from gun violence.
@ Other U.S. cities: feel free to DM me if you’d like a copy of our proposal to use as a template.
"Mayor
@sliccardo
is pushing for city legislation that would require every single firearms transaction to be recorded… Both video recording and audio recording. That's a gun registry. It's a registry of firearm owners." —
@DLoesch
Please report ICE activity locations, description of ICE vehicles, badge numbers, photos, or other information to the Rapid Response Network at (408) 290-1144, so that we can gather the information—and where appropriate—take legal action to protect our community.
If you think
@SenKamalaHarris
took a minute to rest before returning to work, you don’t know her work ethic: she met with me the am after impeachment hearings stretched to 2 am. Millions of families would benefit if her recent bill for an extended school day became law
@realDonaldTrump
You should be prosecuted for seditious conspiracy under 18 USC 2344. I would be happy to assist in the prosecution of that case. Don’t worry— you’ll get out in less than 20 years, with good time...
In a brutally difficult budget year,
@CAgovernor
@GavinNewsom
came through with state legislative leaders to find nearly $1 billion to get California’s
#homeless
housed, in partnership with
@CABigCityMayors
. Thank you for your leadership, Governor!
Tonight, City council unanimously approved our
#GunViolence
reduction initiatives, which included two first-of-their-kind proposals: mandatory gun insurance, and mandatory gun ownership fees. (1/3)
As of last night, 85% of San Joséans eligible for a
#COVID
vaccine have received at least one dose. San José is first among the ten largest cities in the country to reach this threshold. (1/3)
Mayors don’t have the luxury of just offering "thoughts and prayers" while gun violence tears communities like mine apart. Without congressional action, we can’t end gun violence — but we’re going to stop paying for it.
I’d like to think that being able to say that I graduated in the same law school class as Justice-designate Katanji Brown Jackson is some consolation for my admission that I entered law school with Senator Ted Cruz.
San José rejects the Trump Administration’s politics of fear and exclusion. It’s critical for San Joséans—regardless of immigration status—to know they have rights, and that
@SanJosePD
will not participate in any ICE investigation or enforcement activity.

I apologize for my decision to gather for Thanksgiving with my family, contrary to the rules. I understand my obligation as a public official to provide exemplary compliance w/ public health orders, & not to ignore them. I commit to do better. My statement:
I’m tremendously heartened by the response of my neighbors who helped scrub graffiti from Jessica’s & my home late last night. Many of these same neighbors’ homes bear
#BlackLivesMatter
signs—representing the true spirit of the movement, & of our San José community. (1/2)
Our hearts are pained for the families of those we have lost in this horrific shooting. The shooter is deceased, and more information will be provided at 9:30am.
No, I won’t be quitting my day job. Thx Mike Judge & the great team
@SiliconHBO
for inviting me to “Take Your Mayor To Work Day.”
I admit, I shamelessly did it for the money—a contribution to our San José Promise scholarship program for college students from low-income families.
As bipartisan mayors of CA’s 2/3 largest cities, we share serious concern for the exodus of ride-share companies statewide. This Friday, nearly 1M gig workers will lose their income in the Golden State—deepening the economic pain felt in our communities during this crisis.
I've signed on to former President
@BarackObama
’s Mayoral Pledge, & commit to review, engage, report, & reform common-sense limits on police use of force.

"This is the craziest thing to happen all quarantine." Well this is something you don't see every day. A tribe of goats went wild Tuesday evening in a neighborhood in east San Jose.

This evening, City Council unanimously approved my proposal requiring all attendees and staff to provide proof of vaccination before entering large events in city-owned facilities. This will reduce the risk of “super-spreader” events in our community. (1/2)
After evaluating information presented at today’s hearing, I’ve decided to support a ban on SJPD’s use of rubber bullets in crowded areas, as we saw during last week’s protests. We have seen too many injured here, and studies we’ve cited suggest this is not a safe tactic.
At 12:30 p.m., Mayor Sam Liccardo was cycling when he was struck by a motor vehicle. He suffered minor fractures, but his injuries are not considered overly-serious. He is currently resting & in good spirits. Please find his statement below.
-Team Liccardo
@realDonaldTrump
Thanks
@realDonaldTrump
, but I govern in
@CityofSanJose
: extraordinary job growth, highest per capita income of US big cities, 2nd lowest violent crime rate, & highest rate of patent authorship. Innovation, immigration, & diversity are key, & we're fine without your advice.
In San Jose, we’re making a historic funding commitment of $100 million -- none of it from taxpayer dollars -- to build more than 1140 affordable homes, as we leverage every possible tool to combat our housing crisis.
Title 18 prohibits conspiring (by force) to “prevent, hinder or delay the execution of any law of the US, or by force seize, take, or possess any property of the US.”
@realDonaldTrump
can be criminally liable for seditious conspiracy w/o evidence of explicit agreement.
#LockHimUp
@realDonaldTrump
Manafort is a convicted felon, not a hero. And you picked him to lead your campaign, much like your national security advisor, your personal lawyer / “fixer,” & your foreign policy advisor, & each have suffered criminal convictions. Hearing the footsteps,

Please join us tomorrow Thursday, May 27 at City Hall Plaza at 6:00p.m. for a vigil for the victims of the recent VTA shooting. This is a moment for us to come together and grieve after today’s horrific tragedy.
Great running into
@davidhogg111
at the
@usmayors
conference.
I’m thankful to him—and his generation—for courageously fighting for the common sense gun safety reforms our country desperately needs.
Yesterday, we raised the Ethiopian Heritage flag at City Hall, a tradition that's been going on for 18 yrs. I'm thankful to the Rehoboth Preschool, Ethiopian Volunteers Committee, Northern CA Health Care Professionals & the Maleda Soccer Club for serving our community.
I’m amazed at the work
@Bloom_Energy
+ the state accomplished together in a short amount of time. This isn’t just a story about brilliant minds, it’s a story about inspired hearts tackling this crisis through innovation. (1/3)
The City council agreed that while the Second Amendment protects the rights of Americans to own guns, it doesn’t require taxpayers to subsidize gun ownership. This is a landmark decision for taking action against gun violence. (2/3)
The Second Amendment protects the rights of Americans to own guns but doesn’t require taxpayers to subsidize gun ownership. Voice your support for our proposals--to be heard at City Council tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. Our proposal:
#EndGunViolence
Big News: the State just committed $730M to bring BART through Downtown SJ: bringing us one step closer to completing a project I’ve worked on for the last 18 years.
ICYMI: We celebrated the unveiling of Barack Obama Blvd. yesterday in
@CityofSanJose
. It couldn't have happened without the excellent work from the Barack Obama Blvd Committee and the many others community members who urged that we rename this street. (1/2)
It’s official: BART is coming to Downtown San José full speed ahead, with today’s announcement that we’ve secured $125M in federal funding for the project! (1/3)
I’m proposing a new program today to help boost the development of rent-restricted, affordable backyard granny units.
Or in other words, literally, “Yes in My Backyard.”
I strongly support stay-home mandate of
@CAgovernor
@GavinNewsom
. As chair of the
@CABigCityMayors
, my colleagues and I have actively advocated for aggressive measures to combat the spread of
#COVID
, & we are grateful for this decisive action to mitigate harm of this pandemic.
City Hall lights proudly display the colors of
@SJSU
to honor the undefeated
@SanJoseStateFB
championship win today, in a year in which they were expected by some pundits to finish last. Thanks to the team &
@CoachBrennan
for giving us all a reason to cheer!
#SpartanUp
We
#wearorange
to raise awareness about the hundreds who die from gun violence each day. Thx
@momsdemand
and
@everytown
for your partnership and your dedicated efforts to combat this epidemic.
A shooting at the VTA facility on Younger St has left several people being treated, but the situation is still being assessed. The shooter is no longer a threat, and the facility has been evacuated. I will update as more information becomes available.
Anger & peaceful protest will always be appropriate responses to injustice; violence will never be. San José is united in outrage over the atrocious crime committed in Minneapolis & in sadness over George Floyd's horrible death. (1/2)
It’s official!! Today we unveiled the largest fleet of electric buses at any airport in the country, further establishing San Jose as a leader in combatting climate change. Big thx to
@FlySJC
and
@Proterra_Inc
!
Interesting idea,
@RoKhanna
. The financial demise of local journalism — supplanted by meet-the-hourly-deadline-with-no-fact-checking reporting, or worse, pay-to-play blogs—has had deeply harmful impacts on our democracy. We must find a financially viable model for journalism
Well said
@AndrewYang
. We need a fund for independent local newspapers based on a tax on digital ad revenue. At some point people will figure out that grappling with the policy implications of the digital revolution is our most challenging task.
This video is deeply disturbing, & the officer’s conduct appalling. This demands severe consequences. Last month I proposed moving misconduct investigations out of Internal Affairs to the Independent Police Auditor. We must do better—immediately.
They sharply contrast with the roughly hundred so-called “protesters” who stood by silently—or even cheered—while flags were burned and “f*** you” was scrawled on our home.
Mayor Liccardo has been released from Regional Medical Center, and will be resting at home through the weekend.
Here’s a video of a short message he gave at the hospital earlier today.
-Team Liccardo
I appreciate the purpose of bail reform, but releasing a homicide suspect without bail is outrageous. The pendulum has swung too far, and it’s our neighborhoods that endure the most crime that suffer as a result.
Lifting Californians up: Project Roomkey's partnership w/ Motel 6 will scale the program to 16k+ rooms across 19 counties to protect homeless & vulnerable neighbors from
#COVID19
.
CA has procured nearly 11,000 rooms to protect our homeless population from
#COVID19
.
Today, we announced Motel 6 is setting aside up to 5,025 rooms at 47 locations in 19 counties like the one we’re in front of today. We must continue to protect our homeless from this disease.
Today, 81.7% of San Joséans eligible for a
#COVID
vaccine have received at least one dose. This is no small feat & a massive accomplishment for the countless individuals who contributed to this effort. (1/2)
Over the weekend,
@CityofSanJose
partnered w/
@BournePoly11
from the
@49ers
+
@tapinc_
to donate 5k boxes of fresh fruit & vegetables to our communities experiencing food insecurity. For more help: .
Anaheim
@MayorTomTait
& I have placed a friendly wager as our
@SanJoseSharks
& the
@AnaheimDucks
face off:
I'm betting
@eggo
waffles, he's betting churros, & win or lose we’ll both donate to a non-profit working to rehouse homeless residents in the other’s city.
#PlayoffModeOn
Over ⅓ of ER patients from gun-related incidents are victims of unintentional shootings from legally-owned firearms and the majority of gun deaths are from suicides not homicides. Our gun harm reduction law goes after preventable tragedies.
A dear friend & colleague
@mayoredlee
has left us too early. Ed was a good and incredibly gracious man, at a time when goodness, graciousness, and civility are not sufficiently valued in public life. My heart goes out to Ed's family, Anita, Tania, & Brianna.
I am grateful to
@CAgovernor
Newsom for his leadership and steadfast commitment in our fight to end homelessness. In 2016, we launched an effort to renovate two deteriorating motels to provide transitional housing for homeless residents. (1/2)
We just approved the purchase of a 72-room motel for permanent housing of homeless residents, with tremendous help from state funding—thank you
@CAgovernor
@GavinNewsom
As the Mayor of the Bay Area’s largest city, I support the actions of health officials throughout the Bay Area to enact a “shelter in place” mandate. We must move aggressively. This is not the moment for half-measures. History will not forgive us for waiting an hour more.
Thrilled to see the Bay Area’s very own
@KamalaHarris
chosen by
@JoeBiden
to be our next Vice-President.
@SenKamalaHarris
will continue to make us proud as Californians and Americans!
Tonight, my Council colleagues joined me in unanimously approving zoning changes to Coyote Valley to protect 314 acres of land from potential industrial development. The
@CityofSanJose
remains committed to safeguarding our most precious resources for future generations.
After decades without new housing in North SJ, our city can finally move forward with thousands of new homes. I want to thank the many advocates & regional organizations that pushed with us over the years through bureaucratic barriers to spur housing development in North SJ. 1/3
Governor
@GavinNewsom
joins me today at an emergency interim housing community. Constructed in 4 mo. at low-cost, San José serves as a national model to support hundreds of unhoused neighbors & offer transitional housing post-COVID.
Friends, we cannot prevail over
#coronavirus
pandemic if we’re taking risks like this. Let’s all take individual responsibility for not imposing unacceptable health risks on others & ourselves. Avoid crowds & keep distancing rules in place always to keep
