New Orleans is not flooding. The areas around New Orleans are utterly devastated by flooding. New Orleans is suffering from the failure of a privatized utility to solve problems it knew about and promised to solve for a decade
New York and New Orleans are flooding. Fires are raging across the west. Working people are dying from heat domes.
And yet, Joe Manchin is worried Democrats might do ~too much~ to fight the climate crisis.
God this is so dang correct. As the official spokesperson of Gen X I cannot emphasize enough how isolating daily life was for us. The pop-culture stuff people remember today wasn't the dominant culture. It was a commentary on what an oppressive nightmare the dominant culture was
A JPSO spokesman over the loud speaker saying “we are here to protect your first amendment rights...don’t give them up by coming up on the elevated expressway.
@WWLTV
LA Dems not putting up a fight to stop the most corrupt, bigoted, stupid man in the state from becoming Governor all the while pulling out every trick and dumping all the money they can find to defeat their most progressive legislator. Criminal negligence.

We need to pay closer attention to the way Democratic Party politicians at the local level all over the country are diving further and further into authoritarian attacks on the poor. It says something about how broken corrupt and adrift the party is at ground level
Every time I travel and see the way people live in most of the country, I get so depressed by it. All I want to do is go back to New Orleans where we're all doomed but at least we aren't living dead already
Today is Lundi Gras which is when we have a ceremony where the mayor pantomimes a transfer of power over to members of the city's wealth hoarding elite literally dressed as medieval feudal lords.
We are the only city with a pageant this honest about how things actually work
What worries me about a situation on the Tulane campus is the next door neighbors there are some of the worst and most dangerous plutocrats in the city. There are people in that area who had privately hired Blackwater type guys guarding their mansions after Katrina
This should never happen. The festival industrial complex can't just "buy" your neighborhood and threaten to arrest you for living there. This is the same ideology that allows Airbnb to eat your city.
On criticism he was slow to react,
@NYGovCuomo
tells
@ChrisCuomo
“you are not going to be able to find another state in America that moved faster than New York. We had our first

case and 15 days later I closed the schools.”
It is dark and hot. That is the situation from world headquarters here. But I guess I gotta conserve battery so I'm putting the phone away in a bit. My heart goes out to everyone out there tonight. Try to be nice to each other. Lot of work to do soon
It did! It protected New Orleans from catastrophic flooding. But the larger project of saving the Louisiana coast and wetlands which we have spent decades neglecting is what exposed Lafourche and the River Parishes to this disaster.
Dong Phuong is the NFT of king cakes. It's a brand built on false scarcity and the idea that something different is happening but really it is just a king cake. (It's a good king cake. Please don't get me wrong. But there are a lot of good king cakes)
All you folks dispersed around the country right now would be on your way home if it weren't for Entergy's negligence. Please remember to forward them your hotel bills
Out of an abundance of caution, all employees were immediately alerted to power down computers, unplug devices & disconnect from WiFi. All servers have been powered down as well. websites will be down.
The Falcons game kicks off at noon. In New Orleans this conflicts with the scheduled crane demolition. Viewers will have to choose which imploding birds they would rather watch.
There haven't been any hurricanes this year but we have had to spend a lot of the summer with failing a/c, we've had a bunch of trees fall down, some streets managed to flood one day, and soon we won't have potable water
It's a deconstructed hurricane. We're getting it in bits
Everybody is relieved to learn the noxious fumes they are breathing today are from the apocalyptic wildlife instead of from the apocalyptic refinery fire.
An alligator carcass tossed into a pink dumpster. A chaotic drawbridge toys with drivers. A flaming wire throws sparks across a street. Everywhere else it is just Tuesday
we have a weird system of government in this state where the top executive must always have the blessing of the head football coach and the guy who sells outdoor-themed accessories on tv
Louisiana will be in totality with the next three major U.S. total eclipses.

is right in the middle of 2078. Hopefully I make it 🙏🏻

@FOX8NOLA
The cool thing about climate catastrophe really starting to hit all over the place now is everybody in New Orleans can sit back and post, "Why do people live there?" over and over until the whole burning edifice of civilization collapses into the sea. It will never get old
New Orleans was flooded in 2005. But in the decades following it was also strangled by disaster profiteering, by privatization, by gentrification. Much of it perpetrated or at least enabled by people from other parts of the country who tut tutted that we shouldn't live here
"We'll get through this just like we got through Katrina"
1) A lot of people didn't get through Katrina
2) The city we rebuilt after Katrina is smaller, harsher, and more unequal and unaffordable than the one we were before it
John Bel might be wrong on abortion and he might be too friendly with the police and the oil industry but he certainly does have his moments. And thank goodness that other guy isn't Governor right now.
Eddie Rispone endorses Donald Trump who will be a guest of honor at Alabama's home stadium against LSU Saturday.
Coach O has endorsed John Bel Edwards.
I don't know what that means, exactly, but I have also heard that Rispone is a Falcons fan so...
Some of you kids are old enough to remember that Katrina killed all the trees along Lelong Drive in City Park. The left is a photo I took of the replanted trees in 2008. The right is roughly the same view today.
3) Related to number 2. If you want to build a party that represents poor and working class people YOU HAVE TO BEGIN IN THE SOUTH That is where the problems are the worst and where the people are most in need of liberation. Until you are ready to win there you aren't ready to win
Everybody loves Lakeview Gator. Look at him all fat and happy just enjoying the day. Don't we wish we could all be just a little more like....
This just in. The gator has been killed.
How is it that in 2023 local media in any city is still pushing the propaganda that pro sports franchises need or deserve billions of dollars in public money for stadiums?
I don’t know how
#BlackLivesMatter
protests stopped showing up on our TLs, but there were protests today in:
NYC
Philly
Boston
DC
London
Aurora
And New Orleans 👇🏻
As a public service, I have decided to try all the gimmick flavors that Rouses has on offer this year. We begin with cookie dough king cake. This one masks the off-putting staleness of a normal Rouses king cake by filling it with an equally off-putting raw goo.
Everything that happens to New Orleans during this
#lalege
session should just emphasize the point that the leadership of the state Democratic Party, much of which is based in New Orleans, barely lifted a finger to defend New Orleans in the last election cycle. And now look
For a safe holiday the City of New Orleans reminds you to avoid the following:
1) drinking and driving
2) driving at all, really
3) also don't take the ferry
4) it's definitely not safe to bike
5) watch for falling cranes
6) also exploding manholes
7) don't even touch the water
You might remember the Gretna Police force from such human atrocities as firing on New Orleanians trying to cross the bridge on their way out of a flooded city
A Gretna Police officer posted a comment on his Facebook page calling Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez a "vile idiot" who "needs a round, and I don't mean the kind she used to serve."
Joe Biden might have declared World War Four tonight and nobody in New Orleans would know because we are all watching Gayle Benson talk about her dress
#rexcomus
the year is 2021. i am floating through the ruins of new orleans on a raft made of trash bags and tree branches. i get a text message from entergy. my bill is due in five days.
There are pop up events happening all over town where people are distributing food and water and electricity and just moral support to one another and the mayor wants them all off the street
Something about the crowd sizes this year that we should talk about. They were smaller crowds than usual. But also that is the perfect amount of people and we should not aspire to having any more than that
