Thrilled that @FT, my old journalistic home, has reviewed my book New World Inc, co-written with @JohnButman. It is "deeply researched and well-written" and adds we "usefully recast the history of England’s American ventures in a fully global context".

“Thank you to the historians of St Peter’s and the Richmond Local History Society for the fascinating exhibition and for researching the interesting connection between George Vancouver, Chilean Liberator Bernardo O’Higgins and the monkey puzzle tree at Kew.

As part of the History Channel's focus on the #pilgrims and #Thanksgiving and @mayflower400uk, I enjoyed talking about my book New World, Inc. ( https://t.co/jVHZa2VuVo) with @historyauthor for his article on why the Pilgrim Fathers went/came to America:

Indeed. The London aspect of #Mayflower ought to be close to the heart of all consideration and commemoration. Hopefully, great contributions from @GrahamTaylor42 @simontargett05 #ritacruiseobrien and others can be engaged in future. @mayflower400uk @DCMS @LeidenPilgrims

Sounds a great conference but how odd that members of the organising & advisory bodies were from Lincoln, Plymouth, Southampton, Cambridge but not London. It was a London expedition. It's as if a conference in London had invited Amsterdam, Middelburg and Rotterdam but not Leiden.

400 years ago, the Mayflower set sail on its voyage to America. Sailing into the unknown - a bold risk for the Pilgrims onboard. #Mayflower400
