In this study faster meant - 5-6 km/hour. Most older aged adults would find this a challenge. So faster is ok if you can do it but normal pace, which is done in everyday life, also lowers risk and is likely to be continued.

Until now it was unclear what walking speed needed to reduce risk of type 2 diabetes

Vigorous exercise causes muscles to produce lactate - which crosses the blood-brain barrier and is a messenger for the brain to produce neurotrophic factors like BDNF. BDNF is like a youth elixir for the brain and the signal that activates it is lactate from high-intensity

Lactate generated during exercise is consumed by the brain Not only that It increases VEGF at the blood-brain barrier The benefit of that? Blood vessel growth & repair @foundmyfitness

Brisk 22-minute walk could offset health risk of sitting, study suggests. “The findings support the UK chief medical officer’s recommendation that people aim for 150 minutes of MVPA per week – about 21 minutes per day.”

People who sit for long periods more likely to die earlier – but moderate-to-vigorous activity can eliminate risk

It’s been called the Harry Kane ‘signature move’. But others are now doing it too. Two last weekend when Arsenal played Man Utd: Lacazette v Pogba, then Maguire v Lacazette. Another in the Burnley-Everton game. How long before someone gets badly hurt?
