To me, the Netherlands is remarkably anthopogenic place, nature is subjugated, everything is concrete and construction: Why have a garden when you can have space for a second car?. Glad to have found a house that retains some nature.

Wow, this is a beast of an earthquake. Luckily, in quite a sparsely populated area. Hope everyone nearby is ok. Lots of tsunami forecasts now, so hopefully those elsewhere have escaped in time. Damage can be repaired, however sad it is, while lives cannot.
At 11:24am local time (7/30/2025), a magnitude 8.8 earthquake occurred near the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia. Tsunami alerts were issued around the Pacific Basin. It followed a magnitude 7.4 foreshock on July 20 and is near the epicenter of the 1952 magnitude 9.0 event. For
