The beauty of Orkney’s natural world is at risk. Invasive stoats are threatening our native wildlife, from rare birds to unique mammals. Your support will help our work to preserve Orkney's natural heritage for future generations. Please donate or help spread the word:

Why climate change (not beavers) is the greatest threat to floodplain farmers. In this letter we look at the issues farmer face & what might be done to help. Thanks to @scottishfarmer for publishing. #beaver

Think you're having a bad day? At least it's not as bad as this small white caterpillar that's found itself host to a parasitic wasp!

To all the England fans in Germany this morning moaning that the team didn't put in a good performance when they won the group how about you just enjoy the fact your team are still in the competition and have a good time. Show some #positivity

The non-lethal measures that were trialled in this case was to tie silver ribbon to the chimneys most of which blew away a few days later. These nesting gulls may be a nuisance to some but that is not a licensable reason to destroy the nests of an amber listed species.

Lesser black-backed gulls screaming in the estate where I live today as their nests are removed, most with eggs 2-3weeks into incubation. @NatureScot how is this licenced lethal control authorised under the tighter guidance issued on gulls? 1/2

Fantastic result. Huge congratulations to the vast amount of folk who have supported, pushed, lobbied, cajoled and finally voted on this bill becoming law. Licensed grouse moors and a ban on snaring? Welcome to the 21st century!

We knew it was going to be bad but this is hard to take in - a 75% decline in breeding Bonxies because of the avian influenza outbreaks.

A new study published today shows just how devastating bird flu has been for our already threatened seabirds, with Gannets and Bonxies hit especially hard in Scotland. We need urgent action to reverse these trends. Senior Policy Officer, Claire Smith, tells us more 👇
