Check out my latest with @SebastianMurdoc for @HuffPost: Spring Ridge Academy, an isolated all-girls boarding school in Arizona, promised to help "troubled teens," but former students said that the facility abused them and left them traumatized instead. https://t.co/PGXuZet5Wu

My colleague @bcrodriguez and I talked to a bunch of different moms (autistic and not) about their thoughts on the Trump administration’s Tylenol announcement and how it fits into a long history of blaming moms for their kids’ autism. Our latest @19thnews. https://t.co/egd5HlXSBN

One of the earliest theories of autism is centered on “refrigerator mothers.” Echoes of it can be found in plans to Make America Healthy Again.

'Medicaid Cuts Are Going To Threaten the Autonomy of Disabled Americans' from @shruti_rajkumar and @AAPD
https://t.co/gejcWRhxlw
aapd.com
Growing up, I was stripped of my autonomy in medical spaces. Mental health was stigmatized in my family and culture, so I didn’t feel comfortable seeking care. In terms of my physical health, doctors...

Wrote a blog for @AAPD about the importance of protecting Medicaid — give it a read!
Disabled people deserve the right to make decisions about our own bodies. That should be a given, not something we have to keep fighting for. Shruti Rajkumar knows this fight well. After losing private insurance, they turned to Medicaid and saw just how fragile access to care

Last week, the Mint rolled out a quarter commemorating disability justice co-founder Stacey Park Milbern. I attended a celebration of the coin and wrote about what it means and why it matters.

The late disability justice co-founder and activist Stacey Park Milbern is the first woman in a wheelchair featured on U.S. currency and the first person whose wheelchair is actually shown.

A powerful story from @mattshuham, bearing witness to what's happening in immigration courts as people that show up for hearings are snatched by federal agents:
huffpost.com
"This is fishing in a stocked pool. You tell them, 'Show up at this location,' and then they show up and you grab them,” one federal agent involved with immigration court arrests told HuffPost.

we are reliving the era when newsrooms are almost entirely white and great journalists of color, particularly black and brown journalists, are moving into their blog era. this should be concerning for anyone even a little invested in honest, well-reported journalism.

This is your reminder that disabled people were legally prohibited from being in public from the 1860s until the last “Ugly Law” was struck down In Illinois in 1974. Also important to note is the Ugly Laws were put in place at the same time as the Industrial Revolution.

"He looks TERRIBLE" lmao that's how you know mamdani is handsome
It's finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor. We've had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous. He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is

My latest story is leading @HuffPost’s front page! @SenAlexPadilla was manhandled and handcuffed as he was forcibly removed from DHS @Sec_Noem’s press conference in Los Angeles on Thursday. Read more here:

“You insist on exaggerating,” Padilla said as Noem was speaking, seemingly prompting at least two men to approach and shove him.

“Who gets to tell oppressed people how to resist their oppression?” @HuffPost story on Mexican flags at LA protests by @brittanylwong 🇲🇽🇺🇸
What flag they’ll bring to the function probably isn’t top of mind for most people at these protests. “More than anything, these folks are out there trying to keep their families and friends from being illegally kidnapped by a secretive federal agency." https://t.co/8pSfoEkCis
