Black disabled people are still fighting for freedom all these years later. Many of the structural systems that harm disabled people as a whole are even more harmful for Black disabled people. Racism and ableism are systems that enable and reinforce one another.

Today is Juneteenth, a celebration of Black freedom. On this day in 1865, news of freedom from slavery reached the last enslaved people in Texas. We celebrate the freedom, joy, rest, and leadership of Black disabled people today and every day.
