@shipilov @AnnabelleGawer 3/3 Some authors & practitioners are still going to replace "networks" with "ecosystems", and also talk about ecosystems in a more loose way (e.g. include also individual consumers, or other individuals). So the work goes on and more conceptualizations might arise.

@shipilov @AnnabelleGawer 2/3 When I have been asked in the past about the difference, I have tended to respond: Networks involve (formal) direct and indirect ties, while an ecosystem is a co-evolutionary and interdependent system, creating a system-level output. So I broadly agree with the new paper :)

@shipilov @AnnabelleGawer Some reactions 1/3 People have confused networks and ecosystems for a good while now, so clarifying the difference is more than welcome. This paper does a good job in making the difference very explicit.
