My first warbler of the autumn, and it’s a Greenish Warbler! Better still, from kitchen window (!) after coming in from Halligarth. The SE winds of late for us have just not come far enough this week to produce much, so this wee wing-barred wonder was a real treat @shetlandbirds

🚨 ATTN. New Jersey: We can do SO much better than Mikie Sherrill. She voted against the child tax credit… She voted for tax hikes… She voted to give your money to illegals… Reject her on Nov. 4th.

Not what I expected today when entering Halligarth! 🫨 Black-crowned Night Heron. And there was me hoping for my first warbler of the autumn…. Now on the garden list too, #227. Still a rare bird here in the isles, and probably the first August record. @SwarovskiOptik

I was lucky enough to drive past a pair of curlews every day, whilst guiding for @shetlandnature . They were nesting near the house and regularly posed in the fields of flowers for me. Although lovely to see, they did nearly make me miss a ferry or two.

Crabbing with the kids cut short when hearing unfamiliar call. Picked up high overhead, but bins in pickup! Glad I pursued north as to my surprise, this flew off Haroldswick beach 30min later, settling briefly in cut field. American Golden Plover!! #rarebirdsuk #shetlandbirding

Shore birds, are the obvious focus for any hope of finding a good bird in the isles in July- that or Two-barred Crossbill! This adult summer plumage BAIRDS SANDPIPER the Houb, Baltasound was a most welcome representative from across the Atlantic today! #bairdssandpiper #shetland

Some fantastic Fetlar phalarope action for @Theodec97 yesterday on one of our wildlife day tours 👌
Fantastic Fetlar Phalaropes with my @shetlandnature group yesterday! Early in the season they feed more coastally, where we encountered 2 females, getting breeding season ready after their transatlantic migration.

Great to welcome back young @Theodec97 leading tours with us again this season.
Back on Shetland with @shetlandnature and week 1 complete! Started off strong with finding this drake Mandarin (still a scarcity up here). Now waiting for a change in the winds 🤞

“A dream come true” - oooh, suits you sir!!! @WiWildlife 🤜🤛🥳
Out with @martgilli today when we came across this adult Ross's Gull at Ardivachar, South Uist (later relocating to nearby North Bay). What a stunner and a dream come true!

I see David Attenborough is trending. I wish we would actually listen to what he’s saying and act on his most urgent warnings, rather than just saying how much we love him.
