Chris Bridges’ debut novel has been shortlisted for the McDermid Debut Award 2025 along with Black Water Rising and 4 other fantastic writers whose novels I can’t wait to read. Here’s my mini review of Sick to Death

lacklustre performances, odd directorial choices, and a script written by what seemed to be a first year film student. And if I saw one more zombie nob, I’d have gone insane. The “all mothers” train scene was of particular jarring note. Possibly the worst choice of the film (2/2).

#DannyBoyle’s #28YearsLater felt as long as its title suggests. I staggered out of the cinema, bleary-eyed and thankful the ordeal was over. So distant from its original movie with a tone that couldn’t quite find consistency, the film boasts boring characters, (1/2).
