It is with deep sadness and the heaviest of hearts that West Ham United announces the passing this morning of legendary player, coach and manager, Billy Bonds MBE. Rest in peace Billy, our courageous, inspirational, lion-hearted leader.

The “bamboo scaffolding caused the fire” narrative is not only factually wrong, it reflects a prejudice against in-situ craft and HK's own construction traditions. The fire started with the netting. The bamboo is still intact. We deserve better reporting. @BBCWorld

A marshrutka in Cambridgeshire!? Very much felt like I was somewhere in eastern Europe on the @CambsPboroCA Tiger route T12 from Longstanton to Sutton - an eight seat Mercedes Sprinter through deserted fens... Such a fun, memorable ride, but such questionable necessity...

A £20 annual GBR railcard giving 34% off rail travel nationwide would cost the Treasury around £3bn, plus infrastructure investment. Freezing fuel duty since 2011 has cost £133bn in lost revenue. It’s all about priorities, @Heidi_Labour.

Ever wondered where your tax money actually goes? 💷 @BBCNews broke it down by imagining we each handed the Government £100. Here’s how that £100 was spent in 2023–24: £22 → NHS £6 → Defence £10 → Education £10 → Debt interest £11.40 → State pensions £4.15 → Working-age

Callum Wilson is a brilliant striker, and some of the second half defending was heroic (from Todibo especially), but I fear we don't have the quality or organisation to play now in the same way as we did a couple years ago... Still a decent bet though, hopefully it will come.

On Trans Day of Remembrance, we mourn those who have lost their lives to transphobic violence, hatred and discrimination. Trans rights are human rights. Today, let us commit to building a kinder society where everyone can live in peace, dignity and freedom.

My other highlight of the day was finally getting a ride on this Optare Spectra. One of my favourite types - wouldn't feel outdated today and so smooth that it feels like riding on air.

The Reading bus running day was the chosen day out today! Star of the show in my opinion was the Royal Blue Bristol LS coach, including a dusk feeder journey on it to Maidenhead... Comfortable, fast and atmospheric.

No it isn't. Britain is fine and statistically it's the safest it's ever been. Illegal migration is bad, but its impact has been hideously exaggerated. You're unlikely even to encounter an illegal migrant let alone notice they are one. Shabana Mahmood is a dangerous idiot.

These videos have been shown to increase likelihood of viewers saying they would vote Reform. They raise the salience of immigration & present it as a threat. But worse, obviously, it sickens decent people, abandoning Labour in droves & still being driven further away by this.

Nearly 50,000 illegal migrants removed or deported since the election. On Monday, I will announce plans to scale up the removal of illegal migrants. I will do whatever it takes to secure our borders.

As every year, today we remember everyone who fought and sacrificed to keep their families safe. And we should remember the danger of nationalism and militarism - that it is brave to defend one's country, but the worst crime possible to attack another out of hate. #LestWeForget

My newest essay on Feeling the Stones comes from Linfen, Shanxi, which was infamously declared "the most polluted city in the world" by the World Bank in 2006. But I had a different reason for visiting: I wanted to assess life in China's "most median city".🧵 (link at end)

"That's not possible, you can't do that. The trains have to run." Hauntingly similar conditions in Germany to those in Britain prior to the Hatfield rail disaster. Dear friends in the EU: this is not inevitable, just as liberalisation is not a precursor to better railways.

Today I attended a moving Remembrance Sunday event at Manor Gardens in Islington North. I read “Anthem For Doomed Youth” by Wilfred Owen. In memory of all those who have been killed in war, we must strive for a world of peace that treats all human life with equal worth.

The grimy, gloomy, depressing, dilapidated state of the London Underground during the 1980’s and early-mid 1990’s 🤢☠️ Some would say “it had character”… I’ll let you be the judge on that one!
