Great advice. Success for one doesn’t hinge on the lack of success for another. Hard to see that sometimes when music at a young age can seem so focused on that (first chair, all district, all state, etc.).
The most frequent advice I give to music students is to try to overcome jealousy. If you can get to an emotional place where when you see a peer win an opportunity and you feel genuine happiness for them, everything gets a lot easier. We're in this together.
