NEWS: The Senate just unanimously passed a bill to allow D.C. to spend its local funds at their current levels, moving to undo a provision of the federal spending bill that would have slashed the city's budget by more than $1 billion. The bill heads to the House next.

Day 3 at @dcpublicschools Watkins Elementary and part of the roof line blew off, landed next to front doors!! @DCDGS, seems like workers should have been on-site today to make repairs so that other pieces don’t do the same? Please help, @CMLewisGeorgeW4 @CMCharlesAllen!

It would be great if @dcpublicschools and @DCDGS would be held accountable for completing work orders for things like classroom door locks and general upkeep. Another thing to consider, @CMLewisGeorgeW4.
For DC Public Schools, only 70% of teachers stayed this year compared to last. Nearly 1/3 left. With 17% leaving teaching in DC altogether. And the trend isn't going the right way, with 26% leaving in 2022 & 19% leaving in 2021. Next let’s look at the charter sector.

I’m a parent rep on the Local School Advisory Team (LSAT) for my kiddos’s @dcpublicschools school and these monthly meetings get sadder by the month. No accountability from @DCDGS in terms of repairs and timing — MANY DOOR LOCKS STILL BROKEN. @PoPville

THANK YOU, @CMLewisGeorgeW4! The lack of accountability at DGS and @dcpublicschools is infuriating -- please continue to introduce common sense legislation like this to ensure that SOMEONE is held accountable (since common sense apparently does not prevail).
Some legislation is complex, but this one is simple: my new bill requires DGS to get approval from a school staff member (like a principal or foreman) before closing a work order in their school. This is necessary to prevent maintenance issues in schools from going unaddressed.
