Continuing my beat of writing the stupidest stuff imaginable for @esquire while earth spins out of orbit:

Americans have become terrible at forming and keeping friendships. But there must be somebody out there who wants to grab a burrito with me.

Welp, it's the end of an era at @thrillist, as nearly our entire staff was laid off this morning. More details and information on how to support coming soon ✊💔

Kelly is an incredible writer and editor, but also an outstanding leader. She's taught me so much about integrity, advocacy, and how women leaders make workplaces better. One of the best things about working at Esquire was having her to look up to. Hire her!

Well, after five years editing and writing features and politics stories for Esquire, I, indeed, received my delayed calendar invite. Yesterday, I along with a couple other Hearst employees, was laid off from a job I loved and was very good at.

After nearly nine years at Esquire, I’ve been laid off from my role as Books and Fiction Editor. I’m looking for a new full-time role where I can use my storytelling skills, in the book world or beyond it. If you know of anything, I’m at adriennewestenfeld@gmail.com. (🧵1/10)

My final act at Esquire is a fitting one: I hand-modeled my way into the role of "woman with knife" in a @chuckpalahniuk story. So proud to launch my fifth Napkin Project, featuring Chuck, @JackieWoodson, @daniel_m_lavery, @MegWolitzer, and Weike Wang.

We asked five of the most electric writers to fill a blank cocktail napkin with a story about Turkey Day. Their stories will break your heart, make you laugh, disturb you—you know, like most holidays.

Happy Thanksgiving from Hearst, where nearly 200 people were laid off across all categories of editorial, ad sales, product, and PR. https://t.co/3O1XW1ky3n

Imagine being dumb enough to lay off Adrienne, the smartest, hardest working person at esquire! Wild choice on their part, but fantastic news for whoever gets her next.

@gauveyherbert @mitch_moxley @MatthewEBremner @clovito What I suspect I'll miss most of all, though, was editing the last good blogger, the best person on the internet, @CharlesPPierce, especially during this election from hell. I'll miss the shebeen readers dearly, and getting to use "ratfuck" in headlines near daily.

@gauveyherbert @mitch_moxley @MatthewEBremner @clovito It wasn't all heavy and serious, though, one of the best parts of the job was how many features I got to write. Just yesterday I published the last installment of a trio of essays about....idk...life's rich and gruesome tapestry?

@gauveyherbert @mitch_moxley @MatthewEBremner @clovito I had the enormous honor of editing essays in which writers (particularly those from marginalized backgrounds and genders) generously shared their lives with our readers. This Sandy Allen joint stands out in my mind:

My favorite stories were about normal people in extraordinary circumstances, and extraordinary people in normal circumstances. Like this @gauveyherbert joint about warring little league dads:

I'm so grateful to the writers who trusted me with their work, which I'm going to highlight here in no particular order. This is certainly not exhaustive:
