Quite a lot has been happening in the last week or so politically, socially, and globally, and it has got me to wondering - WHERE ARE THE EPSTEIN FILES?

Try to take on too much? How about forced to.

Looking back on my years as a teacher, one theme stands out: American schools try to take on too much. They’re asked to be the solution for nearly every social problem. But when you try to be everything, failure is inevitable.

4/end Now does this mean I think we should do away with all standardized tests, no however we shouldn’t necessarily be giving them every year or if we do our conversions on what they mean and how to respond to the data needs to change.

3/? There is too little conversation on growth & worse a more challenging group can be used against a teacher . The other factors rarely acknowledged are attendance let alone that some students take five minutes for a test that “should” take 60-90 minutes how is that valid?

2/? This folds into teaching to the test or teaching for a test claims which is not completely an undeserved accusation. Too much rides on these tests. Next they are an autopsy often with knee jerk reactions. Who had the highest/lowest score as a class become the discussion

As many teachers are returning to school here’s a bit of advice: sped teachers make sure your gen ed teachers get copies of IEP’s & document receipt. If you are a gen ed teacher read the accommodations, goals and behavior plans. If you have concerns raise them now not later.

As many teachers are heading back now or quite soon I wonder what you all consider in years of experience a novice, experienced and veteran teacher & if there are others categories you use. @MrDanielBuck @educator4ever36 @VinceBoley I’d love your thoughts

While I have qualms with standardized tests, this is the problem with using NAEP as a basis of conversation. Every state has testing based on state standards. One test actually is somewhat concordance with what is expected to be taught.

Amazing. Absolutely amazing. This elementary school in Milwaukee "Meets Expectations" according to the state report card But only FOUR PERCENT of the school's students can read or do math at grade level What are the expectations?!

While PBIS is often done wrong @JamesAFurey misses the point behind PBIS to begin with. Even with actual discipline poor behavior has a reward. PBIS should compete with that, and can IF done right.

I basically agree with this but if there isn’t a degree of compassion in discipline then isn’t it just sanctioned bullying?

As many are back in class or soon will be ask yourself: is there a difference between enforcing rules and antagonizing students? Are you backing students into a corner or giving them a way to comply without losing face?

While this does happen there are 4 big reasons for this: 1) you haven’t communicated to parents 2) you don’t know how much documentation you need (admin should be clear) 3) you don’t have your ducks in a row. You and or admin can’t be bothered.

Questions for teachers: how do you characterize undesirable behavior in class? Do they all deserve the same treatment?
