Finally, after years searching, I’ve found my own sea bean on St. Mary’s! 😃 A ‘sea heart’ - the seed of the monkey-ladder (Entada gigas), a tropical woody vine of Central American rainforests. Extreme seed dispersal at play! 🌊 A treasured find 🤎🙌 #PWC2023 #AlternativeFind

150 days since we started finding violet sea snails on Scilly, & they’re still arriving! Locals have been finding small numbers recently following westerly gales, but this one from Porthmellon today is the first one that we’ve found for quite some time! Exceptional critters! 💜

‘Pi’ is back!! 🙌 A humpback whale lingering close in off Old Town this afternoon drew the usual delighted crowds… but excitement grew when we realised it was ‘Pi’, the humpback who spent three months around the islands during the winter of 20/21! Incredible! Welcome back! 🖤

Today I saw my first ever starfish. In total we found 3 different species: 7 legged, cushion and spiny. A fantastic couple of hours spent with @scillyrockpools

Another day, another violet sea snail, fresh in at Bar Point… only this one wasn’t alone! Such is their lifestyle of bobbing around on the sea surface, it’s no surprise that this rough goose barnacle (Lepas pectinata) found it to be a suitable host! Isn’t nature incredible 🤩

We can’t get enough of violet sea snails! Over 60 of these tropical pelagic wanderers have been found across Scilly in the past week, & are now being discovered as far north as the Outer Hebrides! Their arrival in such numbers is unprecedented - & they’re simply stunning 🤩

More tropical voyagers on Scilly!! @scillywebb found this COCONUT today whilst out kayaking! He brought it back to St. Mary’s then phoned me to say a COLUMBUS CRAB had just dropped out of it! What a journey both coconut and crab must have been on!! 🌊🥥🦀@scillyrockpools

Violet sea snails (Janthina janthina) on Scilly today - ten found on a quick check of Town Beach at lunchtime! The rare arrival of this tropical water mollusc coincides with a big offshore movement of their prey, by-the-wind sailors, at the end of last week! Magic!! 🌊🐌🟣

A challenging safari yesterday in wet and windy weather but our small group of four were tough! They stuck it out and discovered starfish, cowries, solar-powered sea slugs and lots more 💨🌧🦀 #scillyrockpools
