On trans rights as reproductive rights: “Anxiety about trans people & reproduction, & the laws & rules that it produces, cut both ways… The objective is to control the means of reproduction. That’s usually the goal of movements that purport to protect women & girls.”

I have never in my 40 years ridden a skateboard. But @Maura__Fox's lovely, ebullient obituary for local legend Patti McGee — a fearless kid who went pro in an era when few women did & was known for her "rolling handstand" — almost made me feel like I had.

For years San Diego's Think Blue campaign urged people to protect waterways. But its new ads send a new message: the stormwater system “needs significant investment.” It’s awfully similar to what the Measure E campaign is pushing, @UTDavidGarrick reports: https://t.co/nSmIu99pfy

Incredibly pleased that @Kristen_Taketa will soon expand her investigative reporting well beyond the education beat as our new Watchdog reporter. Her @sdut readers (& colleagues, & editors!) are lucky to have her holding San Diego institutions accountable. Read more & share tips:

Haven't been on X much lately, but some news: I'm leaving the education beat and becoming @sdut's new watchdog reporter alongside the esteemed @SDUTmcdonald. I'm grateful to everyone who has entrusted me with their stories and followed my schools coverage throughout the years.

This might be my favorite kind of @UTDavidGarrick story: the kind that ferrets out an obscure, years-old policy that stands to have 9-figure impacts on city spending — plus the loophole that explains why the people who ought to be talking about it aren't https://t.co/LG9p7GcpVS

If Measure E passes, a 2016 ballot measure could require hundreds of millions to be steered toward city infrastructure — unless lawmakers use a loophole to bypass it.

Is UCSD really 'soulless?' @grobbins spoke with dozens of students (plus the chancellor) about what life there is & isn't — & what they wish it were. A great read & smart look at growing pains & a culture gap as @UCSanDiego hits a record 45k enrollment. https://t.co/NoswKwi4Vj

The homeless population along the San Diego River just hit a record — and per @BCunninghamN, "the increase was largely found in the city of San Diego." Just over a year ago, the city began enforcing its controversial encampment crackdown, pushing homeless people out of downtown.
