2 years ago. History made. Go Artemis!
Orion splashed down in the Pacific Ocean on this day in 2022, at the end of its 25.5-day mission around the Moon on #Artemis I, totaling 1.4M mi (2.6M km). After investigating how the heat shield fared, we are preparing for Artemis II, launching 2026. More:

What a great team!
Very happy to have presented the ESA Team Award to ESA's #ESM-Orion Team and their wives, husbands, and partners today. The @NASA_Orion spacecraft is the vehicle destined to bring humans back to the Moon, and @ESA's European Service Module (ESM) will provide everything the

The European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk, The Netherlands is the technical heart of @esa and of @NASA_Orion's service module. Thank you to this team for your invaluable efforts pushing us to the Moon on #Artemis I!

Today I am lucky to visit the European Service Modules in production at @AirbusSpace in Bremen. With 3 in production and 1 completing integration with @NASA_Orion in USA, we are on track to continue the legacy of Artemis I. It’s a privilege to be part of the #Artemis generation.

This is the view some 11 000 km away from #Earth, flying over #Antarctica. Barely 20 minutes to go before the European Service Modules detaches from @NASA_Orion's crew capsule.

Great views of the #Moon and the thrusters that will make soon possible the lunar flyby that will return the @NASA_Orion spacecraft to planet #Earth. The smaller engines are part of the @esa propulsion system on the #EuropeanServiceModule for #Artemis I.

Today, we tested changing the minimum jet firing time for the reaction control thrusters on the @ESA-built European Service Module to model jet thruster firings that we'll use on #Artemis II. Read more about today's @NASA_Orion activities at https://t.co/gqViM3Tl9Q.

Love the gentle swaying of the solar arrays on @NASA_Orion during the DRO burn a short while ago (note the Earth coming into/out of view in the gap between the solar array and the European Service Module). Such a great job from all involved! @NASAArtemis @esa

Yesterday, @NASA_Orion manoeuvred its solar arrays and captured the Moon as seen here with a camera mounted on the end of the array. The #Artemis I spacecraft is now over halfway to the Moon. @NASAArtemis @AirbusSpace @AirbusDS_NL @BeyondGravity_S @esaspaceflight #OrionESM

As night falls @NASAKennedy, tanking of the SLS Moon rocket proceeds smoothly. The liquid oxygen and helium propellant for the main stage are in fast-fill mode, another two hours of fuelling is expected for the core stage. Fill it up! ⛽🚀
